I have worked as an elementary school teacher for 6 years. I have also tutored and substitute taught in middle and high school. I have also run a theater program and directed four different productions. I have a warm, enthusiastic, upbeat personality, and consistently hear from my students how much they love having me as a teacher.
I am extremely organized, initiative driven, and creative. I enjoy creating meaningful and differentiated lessons that motivate and engage students. I am constantly reflecting upon my practice and striving to foster a life-long love of learning within my students. I am a firm believer in hands-on, active learning done at a child's pace, allowing them to gain mastery of the skills and gain an independent sense of understanding. I truly feel the more a child is able to create and understand his/her own experiences, the more motivated they become, and ultimately the more they learn.
I believe that teaching is multidimensional and multicultural, and I have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and mutual respect. I feel it is important to expect the most from all of one's students and hold them all to the highest standards, but I also respect all of their different ways of exhibiting excellence. Not all children learn in the same ways, so it is the teacher's responsibility to know their students and provide dynamic, multi-dimensional learning opportunities that allow all of the learners to be successful. I also believe its extremely important to create a comfortable open rapport between the teacher, student(s), and parent(s) that assists children in feeling supported while they work to maximize their own potential.
I love teaching and helping students learn and grow!
