My aim with language learning is to make it fun and to instill confidence in my students.

I have a degree in Spanish from the University of San Diego where I also took advanced courses in German. Not only do I have a passion for language learning, but I understand the mechanics of language and have developed personal techniques to make language learning fun and less complicated.

As a tutor I am animated, enthusiastic, patient, and attentive to the individual needs of students. I take personal pride in seeing my students learn and excel, and I look forward to helping your student improve their grades while adventuring in to the world of a second language.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know each other a little bit. We would identify their goals and action steps we can take to get there.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Show them good study habits and instill confidence and enthusiasm in them.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would motivate my students by being a role model, getting to know them, using a variety of teaching activities, and setting reasonable goals.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

We would try it from a different angle until we find an approach that brings us to a level of understanding.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Be excited yourself! Enthusiasm is contagious.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

We would set reasonable goals. When we reach those reasonable goals, we celebrate our success.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

After a lesson, we would quiz ourselves. For an example, to evaluate speaking, we would take oral quizzes or do a role play activity. To evaluate writing, we may do fill in the blank or prepare a writing sample. To evaluate reading comprehension, we may read a short passage and answer questions.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

It all depends! In addition to their regular school materials, depending on the lesson and the day, we may use a whiteboard, flashcards, a ball to throw around, or other props to make the session fun and interesting.
