Jamie: Deltona tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a sophomore at New York University, studying TV and Playwriting. Before that, I attended high school at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North in Princeton, New Jersey.
I tutor English and German and most love teaching a new language because it's exciting and fun. My favorite thing about tutoring is helping a student figure out how to do things by himself/herself. It's super rewarding!
I am an excellent tutor because I am enthusiastic and generous. I do not punish mistakes, but try to encourage the development of good study habits, rather than just feeding answers. With writing, I believe it is most important to give constructive criticism that a writer can use to develop his or her style further.
In my free time, I like to play video games or practice guitar. Or just sleep!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know them, get to know their current level, figure out ways they will be most excited to learn.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Ideally, I would like to work on problem-solving strategies just as much as figuring out the answer to a particular problem or homework assignment.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Little rewards and short-term goals to help on the way to a long-term goal!
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Break it down or find other ways of teaching it to them (like songs or pictograms!).
