I obtained my bachelors degree in Biology and minor in math from the University of Central Florida. I currently teach developmental math (Beginning algebra and Pre Algebra) and tutor developmental math to calculus at local college and I've enjoyed doing both for 5 years and 7 years respectively. My tutoring style is visual and kinesthetic apprach. My favorite subjects to tutor are math (developmental to calculus) and Science (dominantly Biology).
I'm pursuing a second bachelors in Environmental Engineering and plan to pursue a Masters in Environmental Engineering after.
In my free time, I enjoy photography, going to the movies, listening to music, reading comics/books and traveling.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During the first ten minutes, ask them about their learning style and how they are preparing for class(es). Then start the session.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
As tutors we are not with student all the time, so I suggest ways to get material from their book or online help, such as YouTube and learning sites. Lastly, I try to introduce new ways to learn material, such as highlighting, notecards, etc.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I give them constant feed back on the topic, and ask them to explain the concept in their own words.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Depending on the subject, I go back to the beginning of the concept to see where he/she may have gotten confused. Then, I reinforce material or suggest other resources that fit their learning style.
