What is your teaching philosophy?

I try to encourage the questions. The more a student has questions, the more he will get curious and will want to learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I might try to understand his strengths and difficulties, to see where I am needed.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would try my best to give an overview of the subject matter so that the student has a framework within which to build their knowledge.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would try to remind him how important is it not to give up, because giving up doesn't bring any success.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would try to find a mean by which he can understand. I would find familiar examples to him to make him understand.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would suggest the student reads the whole text, and then grab a pen and put in the important ideas to them, and what information seems important to them.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Making the student understand that making mistakes at first is fine. That way, he will see the tutor as an advisor and not a judge.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

At the beginning of a session, I would do a quick test about the last one. If I see that there are things that remain unclear, I would take some more time to explain them before moving on.
