I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am currently enrolled as a Sophomore in Honors Petroleum Engineering at UT Austin. I've been tutoring math and science formally and informally most of my life from the elementary to college level. The bulk of my tutoring experience deals with high school level math and science and standardized testing.

All the time I see Math and Science get kind of a bad reputation and its a shame because I really have a passion for these subjects. In my experience, it isn't that these subjects are inherently more difficult but rather they're often taught in a very cookie cutter, 'memorize this' format. And while this can work for some I believe a student must know not just the 'hows' but also the 'whys' behind what they're doing. This distinction is what I think turns a problem from something complex to something logical and simple. So I guess in a phrase my goal is to have the student understand what they're doing before anything else. From there, results are really just a question of practice and fine tuning.
