What is your teaching philosophy?

Students always come first, and I respect their thought process.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Assess their ability on the subject.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By teaching them self-studying skills.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

To always look at the future. They are studying to become a better person, and knowledge is power.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Take it slow, and use different methods showing the concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Show them how I read and the methods I use. Go slowly at their pace.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

To solve problems using the methods they are accustomed to, as long as they are correct.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Show them some cool, real-life examples of how they could use the material.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Quizzing them with a general basis of questions on the material.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Show them real life applications.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Generally by quizzing with general knowledge, and evaluating what they know and what they need work on.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

It's dependent on what they know or their ability to learn at a specific pace.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Whiteboards with markers, I have found, are the best, in addition to the student's work, of course.
