What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that teaching enables me to learn. It is said that the best way to learn is to teach it to another person.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first lesson, I would gauge the student's ability on the particular subject and see his/her weakness and strengths. I would see where the student is struggling and try to target those areas in later sessions.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The best way to help a student become an independent learner is to help them understand the underlying concepts of the subject and get them interested.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

To help a student stay motivated, I would try to tell them the benefits of learning a particular topic and how it would help them in a future career path.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would try to use analogies to help the student better understand the topic or try to break down the topic even further.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would suggest that the student take their time in the beginning and read the passage through word by word and out loud. This way the student can hear themselves and that might help them have a grasp on reading comprehension.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

The most successful strategy to get a student to understand a topic is to explain the concepts to them, give an example of a problem, then have the student solve a similar problem by themselves.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

A student will inevitably lose interest, and a way to get them excited is to tie the subject with something that the student is interested in like sports or games.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would try to make analogies and try to correlate the subject with the student's interests.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

To build a student's confidence in a subject, the student would have to know how to tackle various problems. My goal is give enough resources to the student so they can solve any problem related to that subject.
