I graduated from Boston University’s Creative Writing Program. Very soon after, I taught in the Humanities Division at Bradford College (1986-2000). While there, I directed the Center for Critical Discourse and taught critical inquiry, creative writing-poetry, American literature, and poetry as literature. After leaving Bradford I directed a bridge program at North Shore Community College (2000-2001); taught writing and poetry at Emmanuel College where I was also director of writing programs and led faculty development workshops (2001-2007); taught academic and creative writing at Virginia Commonwealth University (2007-2011); and directed the Writing Program at Bay Path College, while teaching writing and leading faculty development workshops (2011-2013). From 2013-2014, I taught academic writing at Quinnipiac University and at University of New Haven where I also facilitated faculty development workshops in writing and thinking. Currently, I am adjunct professor at MassArt, Boston.

Recent books of poetry include Americana Prize Americana winner, my third book by The Institute for American Studies and Popular Culture, an institute committed to creative writers as creators of culture and recorders of crucial ideas and important cultural moments. Voyeur, Gival Press Poetry Award (Gival Press), and The Apple in the Monkey Tree (Codhill Press); chapbooks, Great Grandfather (Pudding House Press), Family Secret (Finishing Line Press), Hunting and Pecking (Ahadada Books), Rescue Lines (Right Hand Pointing), Phoems for Mobile Vices (BlazeVox) and Paideia (Aldrich Press).

Recent prose scholarship has been published in Imaginary Syllabus, Anthology chapters, Palm Press, Journal of the Assembly for Expanded Perspectives on Learning, The International Journal of the Humanities, Fringe Magazine, Reconfigurations: A Journal of Poetry and Poetics, The Journal of Ecocriticism, and New Writing: The International Journal for the Practice and Theory of Creative Writing.
