After graduating from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 2010, I obtained a master's in math in 2012 from Ohio State University. After spending a year teaching as an adjunct lecturer at the community college and college level in New York City, I pursued a teaching certification along with a master of arts in mathematics education from Teachers College, Columbia- a process which I am just now completing.
My tutoring experience began with a program of college tutors on scholarship at UCLA who worked in SAT preparation with students at a nearby high school. It continued as a teaching assistant at Ohio State where I helped introduce first-year undergraduates to calculus. Teaching college has provided plenty of on-the-side tutoring experience as there are always students to help outside the classroom.
My tutoring and teaching have taken me through all levels of math- from pre-algebra to algebra to geometry to trigonometry to my personal favorites, pre-calculus and calculus.
Mathematics is not always a student's favorite subject. In fact, it is feared for precisely the reason it ought to be admired: the problem-solving opportunities it presents. By teaching problem solving, I hope to in my own small way help to prepare a student not just for some particular career but any career.
My hobbies include reading, exploring New York City, and - on occasion- following sports. I am also always up for a good card or board game.
