Fortesa: Whittier tutor
Certified Tutor
In December 2014, I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Family Studies and Human Development from the University of Arizona. I am currently applying to graduate school in the hopes of earning a Master's of Fine Arts in Fiction.
I have worked as a tutor for three years. My experience includes being an Academic Skills Tutor at the Think Tank at the University of Arizona and being a Writer's Lab & Content Tutor at the Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques Center at the University of Arizona.
I tutor psychology, sociology, English, history, geography, and religious studies. My favorite subject to tutor is psychology or English. I favor psychology because it is remarkably easy for the student to make a connection between the material and their own personal lives. As for English, that is my person favorite subject in school so I enjoy fostering understanding and love for it in other students.
My teaching philosophy is that every student is different. I am not the type of tutor to have my students write note cards and then be quizzed on them day after day. I like the challenge of creating innovative and creative methods to teach my students the information they are required to know. It's one of my favorite parts of tutoring.
Outside of academia, I love to read and write. I'm a complete bibliophile and also an author myself. My first book came out last month and I am not hoping to be admitted to a graduate program to earn my MFA in fiction. I also love yoga. It's the thing I look forward to in order to slow my world down just a little bit.
I love tutoring. It is such an honor to be part of a student's "Aha!" moment. I look forward to being part of yours.
