Science. A small word: big concept. This idea led me to pursue and complete a dual degree in Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences at the University of Central Florida. I have a strong interest in the sciences and math because they explain how things work!
While at UCF, I was employed by the universitys Student Academic Resource Center for two years as a Supplemental Instructor for Biology. My duty as a SI Leader consisted of tutoring students in both large and small group settings on course content and study techniques. During each session, I would review the current material with the students to adequately test their knowledge of the information, and infuse tips to help students remember the content, including mnemonic devices, pictures and charts. I tutor subjects in the sciences including Microbiology, Biology, Anatomy, Genetics, and Physiology, as well as math courses including pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry, My favorite subjects to tutor are the biological sciences (biology, anatomy, physiology) because I am very familiar with the content.
My tutoring style consists of reviewing weaknesses in subjects, and emphasizing strengths. I believe it is important in building a strong foundation in the basics of a subject before jumping in to the harder material. Sometimes students think they dont know an answer when in fact they actually do- they just need a little help connecting information, and that is where I step in.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that all students have the potential to succeed. Students can achieve their goals if they are willing to work hard.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I like to get to know the student to understand their personality, likes/dislikes, hobbies and extracurricular activities. Most importantly, I like to address why the student is struggling or having difficulty in a particular subject area, and have the student provide their opinion as to why they may not be doing as well as they would like to be. I don't like tutoring to seem like it is a chore- tutoring is a great aide for students to utilize to do well in school and their future.
