Certified Tutor

I have recently graduated from Yale University with a double Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics (Greek & Latin) and Theater Studies. Since graduation, I have been working as a director and private acting coach for the Owosso Community Players, a theater ensemble in Owosso, Michigan. In October I will be traveling overseas to Oxford University to pursue a Master of Philosophy degree in Greek and Latin Languages and Literature. Before that time, though, I am looking forward to two productive months in Los Angeles spent tutoring, writing, and preparing for a career in academia. I have loved tutoring for years, and I have experience in a wide variety of contexts -- as a professional SAT and SAT II private and group instructor, as a Yale Writing and ESL Partner, and as a private Latin tutor, to name just a few. I have even had one or two less conventional teaching jobs, such as martial arts instructor and audition coach. My favorite subject to teach, though, remains the SAT: I love the satisfaction of beating the test at its own game, and I am always deeply gratified when my students go from cowering in terror at the name of standardized testing to whizzing through tough math sections with relish. I also love tutoring Latin and Greek, which are my passion and the subject of my career. I never stop marveling at the the way ancient literature leaps off the page in living color more than two thousand years later. In my spare time I enjoy cross country running, and I am currently ripping insatiably through Donna Tartt's newest novel, The Goldfinch. I am also an unexpected video game nut -- I tend to favor the old classics, such as Super Mario and Mega Man X, but I've been known to dabble in such Xbox gems as Gears of War and Rayman Legends.
