Certified Tutor

My love of teaching began with my Bachelor's degree in English Education and 9-12 Licensure from UNC-Asheville. There I developed the pedagogical skills and nurturing teaching style to help my clients achieve their literature, grammar, reading comprehension, and academic writing goals. Since earning a Master's degree in English in 2009 from Winthrop University, I have taught post-secondary composition and literature for both traditionally enrolled students and those with developing skills, and I am currently pursuing a PhD from Old Dominion University. As a result, I am qualified to work with students at the undergraduate and graduate level on everything from admission's essays to MLA and APA research-based writing to GRE preparation. In conjunction with my position as a university instructor, I am also the assistant director of the writing center. There I train new tutors to master the strategies and techniques needed to help students on all levels and with all learning styles or challenges, specializing in composition tutoring. I am confident that my education and experience provide me with the strong subject knowledge needed to guide clients with a confident hand while understanding that patience and warmth foster the reduction of hindering anxieties. In my spare time, I can usually be found spending time with my husband and two children at the beach or poking around the local farmer's market. I am also an avid reader, writer of fiction, and crochet beginner.
