Sarie: Halifax tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of the University of Maryland (go Terps!), earning a Bachelor's in Economics with a minor in Spanish. Since graduation, I have been working at an Economics research firm in NYC where I am responsible for sales into various sectors (healthcare, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications). I have become very interested in healthcare, and I am now volunteering at a few hospitals in order to gain more exposure to the field. In the past, I tutored for the SAT examination in Reading, Writing, and Math. I helped my students successfully achieve their goals and get into college! In addition, during college I tutored at various middle schools in the greater College Park, MD area. Most of the students I met with needed help in Math and Writing, although I also tutored in Spanish on the side. I tutor a broad range of subjects including Math, Spanish, SAT Verbal, Grammar, Essay Editing, and Essay Writing.
In my free time I enjoy exercising, cooking, and spending time with my friends.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that it is important to engage children in the learning process. Repetition is key to understanding!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the first session with a student, I will get to know them and understand the areas in which they believe they need help. It is always important to understand why the student believes that he/she struggles in a particular subject area.
