Tutoring review by Tami in Eustis, FL
This session the student and I began with a review of distributive property. We did a few practice problems until she was refreshed in the concept. We then moved into the assigned homework- a "combining like terms" worksheet. The student did very well with recognizing how to regroup terms as long as there was only one variable and no parentheses. As things became more involved we needed to stop to review order of operations and talk about how to incorporate distributive property with the new concept of combining like terms. Once she was comfortable with integrating the old tools, we completed the worksheet and move on to some additional online practice. We also covered how to combine like terms with exponents and the importance of grouping same variable but different exponent in a separate groups. We closed the session with a requested game of Distributive Property Battleship.

Specifically, we covered 2-by-2 multiplication and math word problems, containing 2-by-2 multiplication. The student was extremely easy to work with, though he was a bit reserved regarding the material at first. She quickly gained confidence, and even identified some of her own mistakes shortly after the errors had been made. For the multiplication, we articulated and wrote out shortcuts and tips for the steps to successfully multiple 2-by-2 numbers .

Tutoring review by Paula in Eustis, FL
The student and I had an excellent session. We reviewed her notes on the Populists and the Progressive era, with her asking me questions as they arose about the Populist party, dollar diplomacy, the Spanish-American War, the Big Stick policy, and labor unions. I responded with clarifying information. A big win from this session was that she noted that studying with me made studying more enjoyable, as I tend to tell it as a story as opposed to just rote memorization of notes. I encouraged her to text me any questions she might have going into her test.

The student and I began our session with writing practice. Today's topic was who should have been the Super Bowl winner. His writing skills are improving. The mistakes he makes are minor, such as capitalization and spelling. We also looked at independent and dependent sentence parts. We also began to look at conjunctions which join independent and dependent clauses together to make a more cohesive sentence. For the next session, I would like to work on more phrase parts of a sentence. Perhaps prepositions.
