We went through his exam review. It was 11 questions related to finding the equation of a function by different methods like factoring, graphs, division and rational zeros. We also covered the behavior of the graph and function. He understood how he has to answer the questions and he was able to do most of them by himself. He is doing great.

We worked on solving quadratics, simplifying compound fractions by factoring and cancelling common terms in numerator and denominator, combining fractions through subtraction and addition by making them have a common denominator, solving equations with radicals, solving word problems involving multiple variables, and checking solutions by plugging in potential answers into the original equation.

The student updated me on her SSAT plans. She and I began the session this morning working on reading comprehension. We worked through two passages in the prep book. She would read the passage to herself first and then we would read the passage together, aloud. In the second reading of the passage we would discuss what the text meant and practice annotating parts of the passage that were relevant. Then we would work through the questions associated with the passage. She struggled with interpreting the passages; however, she felt that the practice was helping her to improve. This afternoon we will work on reading the passage and being able to answer some main idea questions before starting on the questions. She and I ended the session by working on several synonym questions. She did a good job deducing the meaning of a word from the context of a sentence.

Spent the session working on a practice final exam. Reviewed materials that student was not sure about. This included finding the inverse function, finding the maximum of a quadratic function, and working with rational functions.

The student and I worked on his Social Studies study guide and discussed a previous vocabulary test. He expressed to me that he used some of our study session skills on his recent test. He has an upcoming test, and we will continue to study for that test.
