The student and I worked on reading comprehension homework. He did much better this week in answering his questions with complete sentences. Also, we did a math worksheet on counting with coins. The student knows all the different coins and their values well and was able, for the most part, to calculate total amounts when giving several coins. He did have a little bit of trouble with tens and fives when combined, though.

I worked with the student again today on his math work. We went over the end of the math portion of the practice exam for the assessment test and then we focused on the Quantitative Reasoning section of the exam. We went back over a lot of the practice problems on the math section. I reminded the student to use his testing strategies when going over the questions and to remember to underline key words. I told him I want him to take the verbal section of the practice exam 2 and the first half of the math section for Monday.

1. Corrected homework and formatively assessed student's comfort with Algebra and Functions problems, in which student showed considerable improvement 2. Started Geometry review and assigned problems in preparation for next session 3. Emailed her an additional set of Algebra and Functions problem sets to further solidify her mastery of the math concepts therein contained. She is showing good progress in the quantitative problems assigned.

The only new thing she had covered so far was higher dimensional systems of differential equations. The only change that required in our strategy was solving a third order polynomial which we developed a few strategies for. There was also the issue of being accurate with our determinant calculations. We spent a good amount of time proof reading our calculations.

Reviewed past physics exams in preparation for upcoming midterm exam. Topics covered included projectile motion, Newton's laws/centripetal acceleration, work, conservation of energy, and work energy theorem.

Practice quantitative comparison style math practice questions to familiarize student with process of reasoning necessary for answering these question types successfully. Taught trigonometry concepts-- brand new to student-- and practiced concepts with admissions test style problems. Taught rules of operations with radicals-- a new concept for the student-- and practiced operations with radicals until student understanding of the concept was highly evident. Taught special triangles side ratio relationships to student and practiced exercises with special triangles until student demonstrated understanding of concept and memorization of ratio relationships.
