We reviewed quiz problems that the student wanted to go over. We also started going over a review sheet that the student got to prepare for his midterm.

We completed homework Section 8A (Section 8-1, "Pythagorean Theorem" in book). Then we started Section 8B (Section 8-2, "Special Right Triangles" in book). The student is fast and does good work. I gave him strategies for doing proof of the Pythagorean Theorem. I need to repeat this for other proofs. He had an exam yesterday and results are not known.

We talked about approximation methods for integrals. He had no problem with the calculations but needed some help understanding where the formulas came from. I was able to go over some derivations of said equations, and he had a better appreciation for the utility of the approximation methods.

Tutoring review by Christian in Steger, IL
Our Friday session covered the solutions to two problems from the Practice Exam and a discussion of integral calculus and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. The problems we solved involved using the Power Triangle, using complex algebra to solve for internal voltage given current and line impedance, and using power factor to calculate true power from applied power in generators. The student was able to follow the algebra-based material very well, but struggled a little in recalling his calculus knowledge from college. His attitude is consistently excellent and he's motivated to understand and be able to apply the integral material. Our next session is going to cover the few remaining problems from the AM portion of his practice exam and begin digging into the math governing transformers - which involves efficiency equations. I think we had a win from this session that now he is able to answer all but one of the AM exam problems, whereas when we begun the sessions a couple of weeks ago, he had many more difficulties with that section.

Tutoring review by Andrew in Steger, IL
This week, we began covering trigonometric functions and their derivatives. The main focus was in the basic graphs of the functions and how to solve equations involving these functions. To solve these equations, we went over the unit circle in depth and drew a full page diagram of it. He seems to have much less trouble with this unit than units in the past and this is encouraging. As always, the student had a curious and attentive attitude towards the subject material.

Tutoring review by Morenike in Steger, IL
Since the students have not learned anything new in school, we decided to strengthen their fraction computation skills. We first worked on comparing fractions (mixed numbers and improper fractions). They needed some refreshers on how to turn improper fractions into mixed numbers. We then moved on to mixed number operations. They did much better with this; They only made a few errors.
