Tutoring review by Lisa in Cornelius, NC
The student had a quiz on solving quadratic equations yesterday. He said that he was a bit confused by this topic. He also requested help with the quadratic formula method. We worked on these two methods (practice problems). By the end of the session, he was doing a great job, and was able to catch his mistakes. My plan is to make a practice test for him before his test next week.

Tutoring review by Eric in Cornelius, NC
We covered how to use mathematical reasoning to solve multi-layered word problems involving long division, double digit multiplication, addition, and subtraction. The student was mostly struggling with recognizing some of the key math terms that identify the fundamental operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) needed to solve the problems and with the implementation of these fundamental operations. She had a very good attitude about working with the material that was reviewed. I gave her some strategies on how to identify the key terms and how to use base 10 counting methods to help with her operational skills. I also gave her some tips on maintaining good notes and using her scratch work as a guide for future reference. Overall I felt that this was a very good first session.

Tutoring review by Manuel in Cornelius, NC
The student is moving right along but has yet to be challenged in class. We continued the material on combinations and permutations, which so far has proven to be a relatively easy topic for him. No significant biology hw was assigned, but I expect with midterms coming up that he will be challenged a lot.

Tutoring review by Austin in Cornelius, NC
Today, the student and reviewed a quiz that he had recently taken. His areas that needed improvement were estimating the value of square roots of numbers like 20 or 15 and understanding where numbers fit in the classification criteria. I drew him a chart with real, rational, integer, whole, and natural categories and wrote in examples of each type of number. We will work more on square roots next session. After that, we worked on homework that asked him to calculate and write numbers in scientific notation. It involved going between standard form and scientific notation. In addition, he had to add, subtract, multiply, and divide these numbers. There were a few word problems thrown in.
