Today the student and I covered a mathematical and conceptual understanding of ionic, polar covalent and nonpolar bonding. We discussed Coulomb's Law and the equation for lattice energy, and calculating the enthalpy of the overall reaction. The student is progressing well in her conceptual understanding of chemistry!

We covered how to estimate the population mean and variance, how to find critical z values given a certain significance level, and how to determine confidence intervals. That was chapter 7 of the student's textbook, then we started chapter 8 which covered how to test a claim, the null hypothesis vs the alternative, p-values, and how to use statistics to test a claim.

On Monday the student and I met to finish his paper on democracy. He had spoken to a teaching assistant for the class, and so using this advice we were able to finish the last part of the assignment; comparing his definition of democracy with that of the professor/textbook. We also talked about citations/bibliography, submitting the paper, and also worked on the introduction.

After the student's 1st exam in beginner French at the university (on which she did well), we reviewed some points about vocabulary or grammar that she wasn't sure of, such as on/nous, l', il y a, il faut, que/qui. We also reviewed how to conjugate verbs and the 3 manners to ask a question.  She knows a lot already and she is motivated.
