Tutoring review by Gerard in Antioch, CA
The student's class had just finished up a section test and is now transitioning to polynomials. He had very little homework on this subject and what he did have was focused on recognizing different polynomial equation forms and sketching polynomials. When he finished his homework, I decided to introduce more content on his new subject such as quadratic equations, locating roots, concavity, and a brief intro on complex numbers. I did not want to introduce too much because I was unsure on the specific direction his teacher is going to take him, so we focused on the quadratic equation and its significance.

We went over moment-generating functions and a few ANOVA topics. She was well-organized and it was a productive session.

Student 1 and I worked on his pre made worksheet to help him get prepared for his math quiz. He also worked on his daily assignment. We finished with reviewing multiplying 2-digit numbers by 4-digit numbers. Student 2 and I worked on math. First we worked on line plots. Then we worked on multiplication facts.

Tutoring review by Alexandra in Antioch, CA
The student and I worked through her personal statement for her application. Prior to our meeting, I asked that she send along her statement and discovered that she had mistakenly believed that the limit was 5,000 words instead of 4,500 characters. Thus, she ended up with a 4 1/2 page statement instead of a 1 1/2 page essay! Having alerted her to this discrepancy, we had a very productive session where I discussed with her what she hoped to get across in her statement, explained the initial changes I had made, and made sure to emphasize that ultimately, only her opinion matters as to what she feels must be included in her statement. We will continue to pass back and forth edits and I will work diligently to help her get the original statement down to 4,500 characters without sacrificing her voice or the vibrancy of her writing.

Tutoring review by Chloe in Antioch, CA
The student did great in her reading today. She read "Luka Plays Baseball" fluently and with very few errors. We choral read the book together to work on reading more quickly. We worked on her spelling words. She wrote them down on her paper and then wrote them on my back while I guessed which words she was writing. I wrote on her back also to have her guess the words.

Tutoring review by Katherine in Antioch, CA
We covered the concept of functions. We discussed the definition of a function, the difference between a function and a relation, the vertical line test to visually identify the graph of a function, and how to evaluate sets of data and equations of functions. After we talked about these concepts, we worked several elementary examples together, and then we worked real function problems from previous exams. The student was attentive and engaged, and she learned the concepts quickly. She should work problems in Chapter 10 of the prep book for extra practice before our next session.
