Daily oral language, some storytelling, some tense work and some spelling work. The student and I worked on the editing process to go from a rough draft to a second draft. He will take that to a final draft on his own.

Today the student had a math chapter review section. She is doing really well in Algebra. There were a few concepts that needed reviewing such as simplifying equations with the variable in fraction form. She finished the review fairly quickly. Next, we worked on some homework assignments to catch up on that she had missed.

Today we worked on multiplication facts and multiplying 3 digits by 3 digits. In addition we worked on dividing by one digit. We also reviewed subtracting and adding large numbers. We also reviewed calculation volume.

The student and I continued to review fourth grade math concepts, including coordinate graphs/plotting coordinates, and introduced solving basic algebraic equations. She continues to work hard during our sessions, asking questions about anything she does not understand. The student has already mastered many concepts beyond the fourth grade level. We plan to meet again next Thursday, October 11.

I scored and went over the verbal section of the practice test that the student took on Saturday. I told her that she needs to practice vocabulary every day and gave her guidelines to follow. The next two weeks we will go over the math and reading comprehension sections and she will be assigned homework to help with any weak areas.

The student and I worked on his writing homework, an informative paragraph about rainbows. We also discussed outlining your ideas in various ways before writing the paragraph itself. The student likes to use the graphic organizer, so we'll use this in the future. We began a creative writing exercise as well that we'll use to start each session.
