Apple Valley 9th Grade Tutoring FAQ
Ninth grade marks one of the greatest periods of transition in a student's academic career. Entering high school not only means a different school and class schedule, but new teaching styles, larger class sizes, and more difficult curricula. The subject matter taught in high school serves one or both of two main purposes: to prepare students for college and/ or to prepare them for careers after graduation. This goal-oriented approach often leaves little room for personalized attention and development in the classroom, and with large class sizes, receiving individual assistance from a teacher can seem impossible. A private tutor can make a big difference in this regard because they can give your child the type of individual attention they may need. Whether they are struggling with a course or ahead of their classmates, Varsity Tutors can connect you with a private tutor who can work with your child at a pace that works best for them.
The grades and academic experiences students gain during this year can set the tone for their remaining years of secondary education, as well as shape their interests toward future studies and careers. If you are concerned that your student is not receiving the help that he or she needs in the classroom, Varsity Tutors can help you connect with a ninth grade tutor who can help. Tutors work to collaborate with both parents and students to develop personalized lesson plans that target areas of difficulty, while maintaining student interest and engagement in subject matter. The impersonal classroom environment of high school courses can stifle student interest and leave ninth graders feeling lost in the world of academia. Let a tutor help your child through this period of transition and keep him or her fascinated with the world of learning, fostering an interest in continued education.
Varsity Tutors can help you connect with tutors who have experience in all realms of subject matter. Ninth graders are often expected to complete coursework in algebra, biology, history, English, and multiple electives. With the plethora of content that they are expected to master, it is not uncommon for students to excel in some areas, but fall behind in others. When you contact Varsity Tutors, we begin developing a profile of your child's unique academic preferences. We use this profile to help you select the tutors best suited to your child's skill set, taking into account his or her learning style, academic strengths and weaknesses, areas of interest, and even extracurricular activities.
The highly skilled and experienced tutor responsible for your child's ninth grade tutoring can plan sessions that aim to boost his or her academic weak points and build continued interest in the field your child wishes to pursue in the future. Your tutor can emphasize the interconnectedness of the fields your child is studying, demonstrating the necessity of English mastery in the sciences or the way that math applies to music theory in order to foster his or her growing awareness of practical applications for academic principles.
Private tutoring allows your child to receive a unique perspective and insight about the material presented in his or her classes that can help improve grades or test scores, as well as make learning more intuitive. If you are interested in the personal benefits afforded by private tutoring, contact Varsity Tutors today and let us help you connect with a tutor in your area.
Varsity Tutors' live learning platform enables you and your child to meet a private tutor either in person or face-to-face online. This allows for a large amount of flexibility because it allows you and your child to pick the times and locations that work best for you and your child. If he or she would prefer to study outdoors, at home, or in a library or other public setting, their private tutor can be there to help.

Recent Apple Valley 9th Grade Tutoring Session Notes
Today, I began working with the student on the class materials she expect to tackle this fall: Physics and Algebra I. We spent most of the time doing an overview of the topics she will be learning about in Physics class, and discussing practical issues, such as how to do lab work properly. I also began discussing quadratic equations with her, as those are new to her, and she will be working with them in the upcoming year.
Grammar diagnostic (he says he's less adept in grammar), looks about on level at sentence diagramming, although we could use some work on complex sentence structures. Discussed the book we're reading and we're looking for ways to improve our reading speed.
In this session, I worked for an hour with the student and we reviewed some biology and algebra concepts since he will begin school on Monday. I spent a half an hour with his sister, we reviewed area of rectangles and parallelograms as well as volume of cubes and rectangular prisms.
I met with the students for tutoring. For the first student, I assisted him with his Spanish homework. For the second student, I helped her with the English homework as she had to research the book that she will be quiz on. Both students were engaging and followed directions.
The student began the session working on his Biology work and moved on to his Spanish assignment. The student focused on development of words and concepts in the Spanish language.
The student and I spent some time getting re-acquainted with each other, since we hadn't seen each other for several months. We went over his new (high school!) classes, including the kinds of organizational tricks his teachers have taught him so far. We spent most of the time working on The Most Dangerous Game in his reader, going over his responses to the workbook questions while delving more deeply into the material.
