My interest in tutoring started in college. After a confusing lecture, I would often go 1-1 resources like office hours or TA help sessions. Here, I would be able to ask questions that clarified topics that would otherwise take me much longer to understand. Often I would relay this information to my friends, and I felt a sense of fulfillment in teaching it. Being able to help someone along to their "a-ha!" moment and share in that experience has been one of the greatest joys of teaching. In addition, doing so not only helped them, but also myself in solidifying my understanding of the material. This led me to take on various roles as a TA, both in 1-1 and in group settings later in my college career. My responsibilities ranged from weekly 1-1 sessions with multiple students to giving a review session to a large lecture class.Outside of academics, for all four years I have tutored middle/high school students in music in a 1-1 setting. This was through one of Yale's Dwight Hall service/outreach program. What interested me in tutoring music was the same sense of fulfillment, being able to watch someone progress overtime and see their face as they learn something new and enjoy it!

I am a New York State Certified Teacher. I am an alumni of SUNY Albany where I received my Bachelor's Degree in English Studies. Further, I am a recent graduate of Saint Joseph's College. It is there that I received a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. I became certified to teach Birth to Second Grade General and Special Education. Within the last few years I have taught at various grade levels. I taught at a Preschool for students with Autism, and currently teach at the Kindergarten, First and Second grade levels. Furthermore, I spent time mentoring and tutoring students at risk of dropping out of school. As a teacher, I found it to be a natural instinct to want to tutor. Being in a classroom daily, I see how easy it is for students to "slip through the cracks" and not receive the one-on-one attention they need or would benefit from. My goal is to help students stay on track, excel and enjoy learning as much as I do. As someone who studied English in College, I am proficient in essay writing as well as taking a part texts to decode their meanings. More so, I enjoy tutoring in Early Childhood subjects such as Mathematics, Reading, Writing, and study skills/organization.My goal is to work with each student in a way they learn best. I enjoy incorporating games, kinesthetic activities, and songs into my learning. I find when a student is actively engaged they are learning more to their capabilities. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, fishing, and being outdoors.

I am a graduate of Emory University and Relay Graduate School of Education. During my time at Emory, I studied psychology and dance. I also taught numerous students within and outside of my coursework obligations across various disciplines, e.g. English/Shakespeare, dance, etc.. This unraveled a passion for teaching, which led me to pursue a masters in teaching at Relay Graduate School of Education with a particular focus on learning behaviorism (disabilities). For the last 4 years, I have had the honor to professionally teach PHENOMENAL students in Chicago, Illinois. Many of those students are those who happen to have a disability (or disabilities) and who have helped me to fall in love with teaching as a craft. I enjoy collaborating with students to conjure their full potential and to reconfigure how they go about learning. I humbly believe that learning can be both rigorous and fun. I strive to achieve the latter by curating personalized lesson plans as much as I can for students.I enjoy teaching English, Writing and Math for different reasons. I love to read and write, so the ability to share in that love with students is something I find to be extremely rewarding, especially when students are disinterested (and sometimes afraid) of them. As for math, it can be one of the most exciting languages to learn and to play with once the concepts "click". Overall, I really enjoy teaching and look forward to working with amazing new students!

I am a passionate educator who is committed to evolving and acquiring new skills. I am a career learner and I have a wide variety of interests! My longest teaching experience was spent within the City of Hallandale Beach's Human Services Department, at the Austin Hepburn Center. During my tenure at the Hepburn Center. I was awarded the Teacher of the Year distinction in 2014 and the Teacher Assistant of the Year title for the 2017 - 2018 academic term. The primary aim for the Hepburn Center's after-school Program was to prepare our pupils to perform well when they sat for the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA). The FSA examined student knowledge and critical thinking skills across multiple disciplines, including mathematics and English language arts. At the Hepburn Center, I also provided unique interactive learning experiences during spring and summer camp sessions. This was achieved through field trips, group projects, and performing arts opportunities - each of which integrated book work, technology, music, and hands-on learning.Currently, I create and execute lesson plans for the Pre- K class at my faith-based organization. I have also provided tutelage and ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy in a tradition school setting while working with World Evolve, Inc. Recently, I've had the joy of imparting life skills and support to youth at a children's home in Miami. I look forward to meeting new students!

I graduated from Clark Atlanta University with a B.A. in Marketing and Management. After a career in Human Resources my focus shifted to education where I found my passion. While as an after-school teacher I've developed and delivered STEAM, SEL (social, emotional, learning), Project-based learning, cultural, and literacy programs to Pre-K-8 grade students. I later received my TEFL certification and have been able to make an impact on adult learners and youth from around the world. I am currently a high dosage tutor with a school district helping students bridge the gap in reading and comprehension. I like creating a fun and engaging learning environment for my students. Through this act it could encourage them to become lifelong learners. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy traveling, watching movies and being creative.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most children are developmentally ready to begin cursive instruction around ages 7-9, typically in second or third grade, though readiness varies by child. Before this age, children benefit more from strengthening fine motor skills through activities like drawing, tracing, and printing. A tutor can assess your child's fine motor development and readiness, then introduce cursive at the right pace for their individual needs.
Cursive handwriting offers several benefits beyond just writing in script. Learning cursive strengthens fine motor control, improves hand-eye coordination, and can enhance memory retention—research shows that handwriting (including cursive) engages different neural pathways than typing. Additionally, cursive literacy helps students read historical documents and understand written communication across contexts. Many states have reintroduced cursive into curricula, recognizing its value for overall literacy development.
Students often struggle with letter formation consistency, particularly with letters that have similar shapes (like 'b' and 'l'), connecting letters smoothly, maintaining proper spacing and slant, and building the fine motor endurance needed for longer writing. Many students also find the transition from print to cursive confusing initially. Personalized tutoring addresses these specific challenges through targeted practice, immediate feedback on technique, and strategies tailored to each student's learning style.
Tutors begin by assessing your student's current handwriting level and identifying specific areas for improvement, whether that's letter formation, consistency, or speed. They use a combination of guided practice, modeling, and personalized exercises designed to build muscle memory and proper technique. A tutor can also help students understand the mechanics of cursive—like proper pencil grip and posture—and provide constructive feedback in real-time, making adjustments as needed to ensure steady progress.
Effective practice includes daily handwriting drills using worksheets or apps designed for cursive, copying favorite quotes or passages, and writing journal entries in cursive to build fluency and endurance. Breaking practice into short, focused sessions (10-15 minutes) is more effective than longer, less frequent sessions. A tutor can recommend specific practice materials aligned with your student's level and create a customized practice plan, helping you support their learning at home.
With consistent, focused practice, most students can develop legible cursive handwriting within 2-3 months of regular instruction. However, achieving smooth, fluent cursive that comes naturally typically takes longer—usually 6-12 months of regular practice. Progress depends on factors like the student's starting point, frequency of practice, fine motor maturity, and their motivation. A tutor can set realistic milestones and track progress, helping keep students motivated along the way.
Absolutely! While cursive is often taught in elementary school, older students and adults can successfully learn cursive at any age. Adult learners may progress at a different pace than children, but they often benefit from understanding the 'why' behind proper technique. A tutor can design an adult-focused approach that respects prior writing experience and learning preferences, making the process efficient and rewarding regardless of age.
