I am a current junior at Vanderbilt University studying engineering. I am passionate about math and science and I am excited to show kids a fun and exciting way to grow their STEM skills.

As an aspiring doctor, I enjoy helping other students understand the applicability of biology within the field of medicine. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors degree in Biology. Currently, I am pursuing a Masters degree to further my scientific education and will be starting medical school in the Fall. Outside of the classroom, I have worked in a reproductive biology lab as well as volunteered in multiple hospital clinics and hope to apply my personal and professional experiences to enhance the academic achievements of my students!

My tutoring career began at the age of 23, when I was employed as a student worker in the Mathematics lab at the University of Texas at Tyler. While there, I had the opportunity to help students with a variety of backgrounds and skill levels with various mathematical subjects, from basic algebra to multiariate calculus and everything in between.Since then, I have been working on the side as a math tutor. It is something I have always enjoyed.My students tell me that I have a terrific knack for taking complicated concepts and making them appear simple.

I truly believe that all children can be successful in school. Over the past 16 years of teaching elementary and middle school, I have seen children thrive and excel in otherwise difficult subjects if they have the tools to approach learning. I am well versed in differentiated instruction, am creative, and always get to really know my students and their learning styles so that I can help them. In addition to my teaching experience, I have given many workshops on the Common Core State Standards and know what is required to be successful on state tests.

I am fascinated by all things science, and I especially have a passion for math and physics. I earned a B.S. in both General Physics and Applied Math from San Diego State University and have a very enthusiastic and innovative outlook on learning. I'm looking to earn my Ph.D. in Physics starting in the Fall of 2015 and have been tutoring for five years at all levels. I love both math and physics and can tutor a range of math subjects as well as physics; I especially enjoy tutoring high school physics. Tutoring should be a two way street of communication and aimed at helping the student in the best way possible, since each student is unique. I feel that building a professional relationship in which the student is fully comfortable with the tutor builds the best foundation for learning, and my philosophy supports mutual respect. I like to employ a back and forth of questions that triggers the student to learn intrinsically, leading to higher retention rather than merely providing the answers. My teaching philosophy also focuses on test taking strategies and reasoning that compliments the subject leading to a very well rounded individual. I didn't always have the most motivating and passionate teachers, so it took time for me to discover my passion on my own. Hopefully as a tutor I can be the inspiration for young students to pursue the sciences early on in their careers.

I graduated Stephen F. Austin High School with a distinguished diploma and Cum Laude. Currently, I am studying at Texas A&M University to receive a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in History. While studying at Austin High School, I tutored students in a one to one setting for Honors Chemistry I. I also tutored between six and ten students in a group setting for the U.S. History AP exam. Following graduation, I have tutored students in a one to one setting via Skype or in person over the topics mentioned earlier. Professionally, I have tutored children below the age of 8 in basic mathematics and reading comprehension, while also serving as an assignment grader and answer key maker.Overall, I enjoy teaching subjects ranging from the humanities and social sciences to fundamental math and science; however, I personally love to teach History and Writing due to their importance in the realm of personal and intellectual development. History is the story of how the world arrived at its present state, and it is filled with hard lessons and memories learned from those long past. Written language is one of mankind's greatest achievements, as it allows us to communicate with and pass on knowledge much farther than our voices can project, and much deeper than simple memory will allow.
