Santa Clarita AP Music Theory Tutoring FAQ
Are you a music lover? If you are someone who loves to analyze, write, or perform music, then you might want to consider taking AP Music Theory. If you enter college and plan to pursue a degree in music, you will be required to have a solid understanding of the foundational concepts in this field. AP Music Theory enables you to learn these concepts in a classroom setting, through engaging, rigorous, and challenging assignments that are on the same level as an introductory music theory course in college. Whether your interest in music is aimed at academic research, vocal performance, or instrumental performance, scoring highly on your AP Music Theory exam can allow you to get a head start on your goals by earning potential college credit and bypassing introductory music theory courses.
The AP Music Theory exam is a cumulative evaluation of coursework. While it affords students unique opportunities, AP Music Theory also presents unique challenges. Students are expected to develop their understanding of music by engaging with it in a variety of different ways. When working with music, you will be required to read it, write it, sight-sing it, annotate it, and analyze various musical pieces that you listen to. Furthermore, you will be expected to master a great deal of technical jargon related to the various structural systems in which music is written.
When you study AP Music Theory, you will be learning a whirlwind pace, developing crucial skills and fundamental knowledge over the course of only a semester. If you find yourself struggling to keep up with the pace of the course, you might lose your interest in music and consider changing your career path. Before you do this, consider contacting Varsity Tutors and asking for help locating a private AP Music Theory tutor in your area.
Private tutoring might be just the resource to help you conquer this class and its exam, as well as to set yourself up for success in later courses. AP Music Theory is unlike many other AP courses because it is so difficult to study on your own. Practice books and internet resources can only be of so much help in a subject like music theory, especially when it comes to practicing your listening and sight-singing abilities. If you want to receive feedback on the development of your skills, work with a private tutor! Experienced tutors have stood in your shoes and excelled on their own AP Music Theory exams, so they know exactly the level of proficiency and expertise you will need to demonstrate on test day to earn a great score.
Working with a knowledgeable music theory tutor can give your studying the structure and feedback you need to succeed on the auditory aspects of the exam, as well as on the written portions. Moreover, it gives you a level of convenience that doesn't exist in the classroom setting. You are able to schedule private lessons at a time convenient to you, and you are also in control of where you would like to study. Also, if you can't meet in-person, you can schedule a face-to-face online session using our live learning platform.
We are excited to help you connect with an AP Music Theory tutor who is best suited for your personality and learning style who can guide you toward academic success. Recent Santa Clarita AP Music Theory Tutoring Session Notes
The student and I reviewed and finished out her history notes for chapter 10, section 1. We completed and reviewed all of her Spanish chapter 4, section 2 worksheets. The majority of the session was spent on English. We set up a complete outline for her essay, based on the new information about the length. We chose the five major points she will discuss, and came up with three areas of discussion for each of these five points. She is to complete research, both written and online to flesh out these areas of discussion before our next meeting. She is also to review her chapter 4 Spanish text and worksheets for 15 minutes each day to study for her exam on Thursday.
I am very proud today as the student seemed to really commit to our goal for this week. The assignment I gave her in our last session was complete (to have a designated study time for a full hour each day) and she felt confident about her math test she took today. We spent our session preparing for her upcoming French test by reviewing the best ways to study for a foreign language exam. I think she was surprised by how challenging the material was once she actually quizzed herself instead of glancing it over. We discussed how she would study for her History test on Friday and I advised her to start looking ahead to a Science test coming up on Monday. She agreed to continue with her specific 1-hour study time per day and I hope this will help get her in the habit of getting homework done early instead of rushing to complete it late at night.
The student is a very eager study. He's mostly followed the suggestions requested and after reviewing all of his processes and study habits, I gave him a list of suggestions to follow for the following week. I then taught him a card sort as a concept in developing both papers and projects, so he can better organize his thoughts prior to developing an outline. Lastly, we reviewed his previous semester papers and determined what he did and didn't need to keep and organized the archived papers for this semester -- papers he keeps in a box.
I met the student at his house today. We worked on his study guide for algebra 2 since he has a test tomorrow. Then we talked about his study habits/organization habits and I showed him the organization app I use to keep track of things. He downloaded the app and we went through some of his folders to clear out old/unnecessary files. He also showed me the haiku system that his school uses to organize new files. Since it is the beginning of the semester, he does not have any late assignments at the moment. We made a plan to meet next week three times.
Today was just an introductory session. The student was very clear about what areas she needed help with (with specific mention to retaining information while studying), and we went through a few preliminary strategies for how she might better prepare for exams and quizzes. We also discussed more long-term goals, and briefly went over how we might tackle each one when the time comes. Since she has a test coming up on the 26th, I gave her an assignment to teach her study skills, due on the evening of the 17th. If this strategy doesn't help, we will re-calibrate and come up with an alternative.
Today we reviewed for her Geography quiz which is on Thursday. We discussed the various methods and resources that are available to assist her with her studies. We talked about the importance of breaking the material up into manageable pieces, so that she is not cramming at the last minute.
