The sun was shining bright in my face, as I sat near the window. But my face proved to be a sharp contrast; I had just come from a horrible first day of college. I remembered my fathers words When youre in the dumps, remember lifes unforgettable experiences and smile Thus, I closed my eyes and allowed myself to be drenched in the monumental moments of my life. I was now a young girl, climbing the pear tree behind my small mobile house in an unheard-of town: Anahuac, Texas. I reminisced my first fishing lessons, my first boat ride, and my first swimming lessons. This was the small town that held my hand and showed me the beauties of the world and its people. Hungry for more; my mind raced forward five years. I was now sitting in a rackety, old, Indian bus on my way to see the Man who would change my life forever. I had only heard of the greatness of this great spiritual Master, but now my heart was throbbing to finally meet Him. After reaching His ashram, I saw Him, not just with my eyes but with my heart. I was enthralled. My mind, now much healed, yearned for more memories. I recollected facing my biggest fear of public speaking by lecturing, not once but thrice, to over ninety individuals, at the local Hindu temple. I remembered accomplishing my dreams of learning how to ride a motorcycle by riding my Honda Rebel and learning classical Indian music from a professional in India. Then, I recalled teaching students the pillars of life in the form of values. I saw myself non-clinically caring for postoperative patients and assisting research in an onco-pulmonology lab. I found myself serving the Bhutanese refugees their midday meal, humbled by the opportunity of delivering happiness in the form of assurance of a meal.
Now with a newly found strength and belief in myself, I opened my eyes. I looked out the window yet again, but this time I allowed the suns comforting rays to wash over me. I took a deep breath, and thought to myself I am Muktha Nair, and nothing, nobody, can change that. And thus rejuvenated, I stood up, determined to continue my memorable journey.
