As a lifelong learner, I am excited to help students achieve their academic goals. With a background in Business Administration, I have developed a strong foundation in Mathematics. Additionally, I have experience with science courses at the middle and high school levels. I previously volunteered to tutor middle students in Math!

Hello, my name is Jake Sanders, I am a graduate student and writing instructor in the English department at the University at Buffalo. I study 20th century American and British literature, but have experience taking the SAT, AP Subject tests in Literature and Psychology, and the GRE General and Subject test in Literature. My scores are included in my profile. I am also a writing technique tutor at the Center for Excellence in Writing at UB and enjoy working one-on-one with students from a variety of academic backgrounds, including in Science and Engineering. I am happy to travel to libraries or elsewhere to tutor. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
My name is Daniel Kearney, and I'm a recent college graduate living in New York City. My entire professional career has been spent working with youth. I love working with kids of all ages. Their ability to soak up information and improve is inspiring, and their energy makes work not feel like work. I believe that all students are capable of academic success and that sometimes all it takes is a novel approach. This is why it is important to understand the unique learning style of each student. I'm looking forward to getting to work at Varsity Tutors and helping students reach their full potential.
As a dedicated tutor with experience in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP English Language and Literature, I strive to cultivate a nurturing learning environment that motivates students to achieve their academic goals. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts at Fordham University. Within my teaching, I try to weave in creative aspects, particularly in Creative Writing and Drawing. I strive for the students to feel they can express themselves fully. My personalized approach emphasizes understanding each student's distinct strengths and challenges, fostering both confidence and engagement. Further, I find joy in assisting students with essay editing and enhancing their Spanish language skills, aiming to ignite a passion for learning while empowering them to embrace their individuality.
My practice is founded in the belief that critical thinking will always benefit the student greater than memorization. Therefore I spend my time show my students how to think and deconstruct problems instead of having them memorize the answers. This method has taken my student far beyond the classroom and has given them the tools to achieve their dreams.
As an educator, I am deeply committed to empowering students to reach their full potential and achieve academic success. With a passion for teaching and a belief in the transformative power of education, I strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where every student feels valued and encouraged. My approach is student-centered, tailoring instruction to meet the unique needs and learning styles of each individual. Whether it's breaking down complex concepts, providing additional practice, or offering guidance and support, I am committed to helping students overcome challenges and build confidence in their abilities. With patience, empathy, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning, I am excited to embark on this journey of academic growth and discovery with my students.
I graduated Harvard in 1987, I went to Fordham for Law School, but the thing I enjoy the most is teaching. My parents were teachers, and the greatest thing you can do in the world is help someone understand things. I can help any kind of student with a desire to work do much better.
I am a recent graduate of Fordham University with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and theology, as well as two minors in Medieval Studies and Classics. I have nearly life-long experience as an educator, particularly though to my current position as an museum educator at the Hudson River Museum. Additionally, I have a rigorous background in English language and composition, in addition to research and academic writing. In order to make these subjects accessible to my students, I break down the process and fundamentals of the subject matter. In understanding the subject as a whole, the student masters and retains the course material. My method is tried, true, and allows students to grow confident in themselves and their academic ability.
I hold a Ph.D in English from Fordham University in NYC and a valid secondary school teaching license. Plus, I have over 30 years of experience teaching and tutoring students: 26 at the university level and four at the high school level. My expertise spans a wide range of subjects, English Language (grammar, syntax, and all the 'fun" stuff) and composition (the act of written expression), reading for comprehension, literary analysis, Honors and AP English, Mythology, Debate and public speaking, creative writing (I'm even a published author), college application essays, university level research essays, and test preparation coaching for High School, University, and Grad level testing. I am passionate about creating a learning environment where I empower students to find their own unique voices and express their ideas with confidence. I specialize in breaking down assignments into easy-to-follow steps, and I utilize a variety of diverse teaching methods to tailor a tutoring session to what an individual student needs. I'm especially good with neurodivergent or non-traditional students--not only am I one myself, but both my kids are and I've adjusted my practices many times to better fit what a student needs in order to be successful in an academic setting that isn't one-size-fits-all. My goal is to inspire students to realize their own potential and to transform writing from a confusing or intimidating task into an enjoyable and rewarding experience. In all my years as a teacher, the one thing I missed most was the chance to talk one-on-one with a student and really listen to what they needed--tutoring lets me do just that! I'm excited to learn more about you and help you achieve success
Over the last 20 years I have been teaching, empathy, sincerity, integrity and a genuine desire to see others succeed, have been my driving force. I relish and enjoy to see that student who has struggled in understanding a concept finally get it. I love to see learners, approaching the subject matter at hand with enthusiasm, and a great resolve to learn. To accomplish this and help students, I have always listened to the needs of every student, and I always seek to understand the students' goals. This allows me to tailor material in the course to meet those needs and helps me figure out how to best teach each student. Each learner is unique, and as an instructor, I cannot assume a one size fits all approach in my teaching. This is why I have been successful as a college professor and have continued to be viewed by many of my students as a superior teacher, who strives daily to see my students succeed.
I am a graduate of both Loyola University Maryland and Fordham University. At Loyola, I earned my Bachelor's degree in History and Spanish. I studied numerous aspects of World History and focused my thesis on Medieval Spain. I earned my Master's from Fordham in Medieval Studies, with concentrations in History and Islamic Studies. After earning my Master's, I worked in Spain as an English Teaching Assistant for a bilingual high school in Madrid over the past academic year. I had the privilege to lead classes in various subjects, namely English, History, and Art, while also giving students one-on-one attention to help with particular difficulties they were having in English. My tutoring experience began as a peer tutor at Loyola, where I tutored History and Spanish. In Spain I tutored students, teachers, and parents in English. My favorite subjects to tutor are Spanish and History because they are essential for the development of communicative and analytic skills, which are essential for success in university and graduate level studies.During my lessons, I effectively collaborate with my students to discover their learning tendencies and habits so that they can quickly develop a strong understanding of the subject based on their strengths. My lessons are filled with discussion and dialogue in order that my students do not become bored with the material, but remain engaged and do not feel like they are being lectured. My goal in tutoring is to ensure that my students become motivated to constantly improve themselves; in doing so, they will develop a lifelong love of learning and a drive to succeed in any aspect of life.Aside from teaching, I am an avid sports fan, particularly of football, baseball, soccer, and golf. I also enjoy traveling, having done so extensively throughout Spain and other places in Europe, such as Rome, Paris, and Germany. There is nothing quite like speaking the native language (whether it's Spanish or broken French, Italian, and German) and experiencing the architecture, food, art, and music of all these places far away from home. These experiences have reinforced my appreciation for History and Spanish, as well as for the diversity of the world in which we live.

I am also proficient in investing and financial concepts through my work and degree.
In 2021, I received my Bachelor of Science in Integrative Neuroscience from Fordham University with minors in Philosophy and Chemistry, and I am currently a medical student. In college, I tutored and TAed in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry. In addition to writing, basic math, and various chemistry courses, I am also available for ACT and MCAT tutoring. Preparing for standardized tests can be very overwhelming but it does not have to be. With my years of tutoring work and experience taking these exams myself, I can guide students through the preparation process so they enter the testing facility with confidence and leave with a score to be proud of.

My love affair with language began in 8th grade when, as I read short stories, I saw how word-crafting could issue in what I call 3-D thinking. Good writing breathes sharp life into ideas, fosters synergy across them while creating new thought patterns for writer and reader. Throughout my 25 years of teaching and tutoring college students at an Ivy League university and at other local institutions guiding them through class essays, research projects, honors and masters theses, and graduate school personal statements--I always found joy in helping students discover what they wanted to sayand to express themselves coherently and persuasively. I hold a B.A. in English from Fordham University summa cum laude and in 1998 I earned a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In the course of completing my doctoral project after a long pause from grad school to raise my son, I cultivated the ability, and empathy, to look at academic challenges resourcefully from both sides of the desk. Given that my research on Hamlet was highly interdisciplinary-- joyous and original--I have carried that intellectual exhilaration into all my work as a lecturer, writing specialist, tutor, academic advisor and administrator, always urging students to seek out more conceptual connections and to write as integratively as possible. Currently I am working part-time by choice, but my staunch resolve that the pen is mightier than the sword remains intact and never fails to excite me. I want to share my excitement, expertise, and love of writing with you--and am ready to motivate you and empower you, as I have done so for numerous students, to write your best thinking!
I am excited to be a tutor for Varsity Tutors. I have a Biology/Spanish degree from Fordham University and have since worked as a New York City high school Biology teacher as well as in biological research. In addition to running and exploring the city in my spare time, I am a mentor for a New York City program that boasts 100% college acceptance rate for participating students. In high school, I received scores on my PSAT/SAT that helped me get into a great college and earn a full-tuition National Merit Scholarship. Through that process, I learned many tricks to raise standardized test scores and to really use the results to my best advantage. I also like to help students with all subjects and in particular, Science, Math, Writing, Regents exams, high school entrance exams, and PSAT/SAT. As a teacher, I understood first hand that everyone learns in different ways and at different ability levels, but every student can achieve at their best when they receive personalized instruction tailored to their needs and interests. As a tutor, I hope to help students throughout the city understand how they can best perform in school and on tests to achieve their academic and personal goals.
Hi! I'm Jacqueline Winslow, and I'm an English major at Fordham University. I'm a published editor and writer, and my experience as a TA at Fordham has made me the ideal person to help you write the perfect essay.

I am an undergraduate student at Fordham University, class of 2020. Although I am majoring in Italian Studies, I have a broader interest in modern languages and cultures. My background includes Spanish, French, ESL, Italian, and Arabic. Currently, I am working on my thesis which investigates the intersection of Arabic and Italian culture in Sicily.
Hello,I'm a full time working professional and adjunct professor based in Manhattan. I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in Medicine, Health, & Society and a minor in Managerial Studies. I've also earned my MFA in Luxury & Fashion Management from Savannah College of Art & Design and my MSL in Fashion Law from Fordham School of Law. I have been an Adjunct Professor in fashion business since 2016 and love working one-on-one with students to build confidence and identify their root source of motivation while of course building knowledge and develop critical thinking skills. I'm available to tutor students in a wide range of topics including English (grammar, writing, reading, spelling, etc.), math (through Algebra 2), and history. As a US Presidential Scholar who earned a 35 out of 36 on my ACT, I am most actively seeking students for ACT tutoring as well as general college prep including college applications, scholarship search, and financial aid application assistance.
A recent graduate of Fordham University, I have received my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Spanish Language and Literature. I also hold a minor in French Language and Literature. I've taken coursework in every subject from computer science to film and media, and I have experience in standardized testing such as the ACT and SAT. I know that there is no singular approach to tutoring students; every individual learns differently. I appreciate this fact, and I promise to find the best approach tailored to the subject matter and your needs as a student.
I am a sophomore in college who enjoys learning and teaching! I am majoring in French and Art History, I also have a minor in psychology. I love to run and read when I am not studying or tutoring.
I was a Teaching Assistant at the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University working as an editor and TA for English essay grading, from 2013 to 2014. I was a tutor at the Rosedale Achievement Center for Girls during the spring of 2012. I taught health classes to freshman at Bronx public high schools from 2010-2011. I was an assistant violin teacher at the Mind Builders Creative Academy from 2011 to 2014.I am a great tutor because I help students break down complicated and difficult assignments into manageable tasks and goals. I am committed to helping students fully comprehend and understand the information they need to learn. This is because I believe students perform best in school when they understand concepts instead of using memorization, which does not provide a stable foundation for more complex work in the future. I love working with young people and helping them to link their coursework to their own personal development and the world they live in.
My higher education began at Fordham University in Bronx, New York. I attended Fordham from 1980-1984 earning a B.A. degree in English. I minored in Philosophy there as well. My education continued at CW Post University in Brookville, New York. I attended C.W. Post from 1994-1996 and earned an M.A. degree in TESOL, or more simply ESL, Teacher of English as a Second Language. During the twelve years between my undergraduate and graduate work I was a rock and roll musician and songwriter in a group called "The Chilly Dogs." My group released an album in 1987 and we toured The United States and Canada in support of the record. After The Chilly Dogs broke up in 1990, I joined a Lithuanian Polka Band called "She and the Three Amber Men," and I got to tour Lithuania, Australia, and The United States with this group. I also recorded an album with an artist called "Paleface" in 1993 and it did not sell many copies, so I decided to become a teacher as I always loved working with kids. I decided to become an ESL teacher because I myself spoke only Lithuanian when I entered kindergarten in 1967, when there was no such thing as ESL in schools yet. I got teased and harassed some by the kids that were fluent in English, and it wasn't a fun time for me for a few years until I learned English.I got my first teaching job at The New York City Dept. of Education in December of 1995 as an ESL teacher. I taught ESL for the next nineteen years not only in school. Many of the newly arrived kids knew very little or no English at all and their parents often asked me if I could tutor their kids privately after or before school, sometimes even on the weekends. Many of the newly arrived parents of the kids I was teaching also asked me to tutor them in English. I really loved my job because I felt that I was a very important part of the newly arrived students' and their parents lives. When I got to tutor I felt that I was getting closer to my kids than teachers of other subjects would. I also didn't only tutor my kids in ESL. They came to my class for ESL once or twice a day and then had to go to their other four "core" subject classes, Science, Math, Social Studies, and English. I had to find out from the other teachers how my kids were doing in their other classes, and then I had to decide how I could best help them with those classes while they were in my class. I got interested in the other subjects the kids were taking and learned a lot about them.I am able to tutor in at least ESL and the four "core" subjects my kids took and did so. I really don't have a favorite subject to tutor and don't want to sound arrogant, but I am interested in basically anything from A stronauts to Z ebras and once I get interested in some new subject, my mother was a librarian, and she can still get me books on any subject I become interested in. My dad was the Head of Engineering at Grumman and is now an inventor, and whenever I go over my parents' house I find that he can shut my car off from inside the house, and I don't know what he's exactly up to now, but my phone doesn't work anywhere near my house and he won't tell me why. He has told me that since he worked at Grumman he has had top secret clearance. Recently I punched in my last name, "Janusas" into Google, and up came a photo of a UFO in a newspaper from Brazil called "The Janusas Photo." You can try it yourselves, and you'll see what I saw. I actually printed out the article I accidentally "Googled" and made copies of it for my ESL kids for a lesson. They were extremely interested in what was written there, with my last name there, and I was quite amazed that my slightly above beginner level students were so interested in the picture and the article that all I basically had to do during that class was sit back and watch them all become team players, getting into a big group on their own. They were gleaning English words they knew from each other and after twenty minutes were able to give me a summary in English of what this advanced adult article was about. That sums up my teaching/tutoring style. The kids are just like me...If they become really fascinated and challenged by something, I feel like my job is almost done. I may have to guide or help the students or student some, but if this becomes the case, both the student and teacher are reaching their maximum potential. This kind of interest is what I strive for every time a have to put a lesson together and teach or tutor.
I am a former student/athlete of a top academic university in New York and have been accepted to medical school for the class of 2025. I have worked with Kumon and Mathnasium in the past which has given me plenty of experience tutoring and teaching math and various sciences to elementary through college students. I believe in understanding fundamental concepts the most and can vary my teaching style tremendously to fit a variety of student needs and problems.
I have loved learning for as long as I can remember and truly want every person to experience the same kind of joy and excitement at expanding his or her horizons and tackling new problems that I have. Every student should have the opportunity to feel both successful and challenged, recognizing that an integral part of success is struggle. It is so important to develop and value grit; struggling with a difficult concept or a complex problem is a beneficial process that leads to true learning. Because of this belief, I am enthusiastic about new approaches to mathematics in K-12 education, in particular. In place of rote memorization, Common Core emphasizes creative approaches to problem solving to develop mental math abilities through mathematical thinking and number sense. My strong liberal arts background has also given me great appreciation for and mastery of critical thinking, textual analysis, and articulate writing across subject areas. As a straight-A student my entire life, I hold myself and my students to a very high standard. I care greatly about the details and hold firm that quality always matters. That said, I wholeheartedly believe that learning is a process and perfection does not come without struggle and persistence. Long-term benefit often stems from short-term "failures," so no student should ever feel either discouraged by difficulties or satisfied by ease. As a classroom teacher who works with 27 students daily, I also appreciate that each student is unique, learning through and becoming motivated by different approaches. I love getting to know each of my students to figure out how to give him or her the best learning experience possible, tailored directly to his or her needs. Particularly in the elementary years, emphasis must be placed on a strong foundation of understanding and of learning habits for greater success in the more rigid and demanding high school and college years.I am currently an elementary school teacher, although I have worked with students from early childhood through college. In the past couple of years (including summer), I have taught kindergarten and first, third, and fourth grade. I am completing a Master's degree in education at Fordham as part of my certification in grades 1-6 and have a 4.0 GPA. As an undergraduate, I attended Wellesley College and was cross-registered at MIT. I majored in Jewish studies and minored in history, although I took courses in everything from microeconomics to psychology, and I graduated with a 3.92 GPA. At Wellesley, I worked as a statistics teaching assistant and volunteered as a kindergarten literacy tutor, an early childhood center student teacher, and a college tour guide. I worked as a kindergarten and afterschool teacher at a prestigious private school in Boston after graduation, before returning to school to complete a Master's in Near Eastern and Judaic studies at Brandeis University with a 3.96 GPA. I hope to continue school after completing this second Master's degree because I love education as both a teacher and a student!
I have been tutoring since I was a college student. At that point, I taught high school students and helped them to excel on the SAT/ACT as well as in the various Regents exams. I graduated summa cum laude from Touro College, and now I am a graduate student working towards my PhD in history and teaching college part-time.I have had the opportunity to teach hundreds of students in a college classroom. I have really enjoyed this experience, but I have found that many smart, motivated students lack the skills they need to maintain a strong GPA in college. To address this problem, I began to focus my high school tutoring on writing and critical analysis skills, and I worked one-on-one with some of my college students. I developed a system that focuses on developing reading comprehension, organized writing, and analytical thinking. These skills enable you to succeed on standardized tests like the SAT, but also in English and humanities classes. This is also what I use to prepare students for the PSAT. Trust me, it works! Not only did I score 2220 on the SAT, but my PSAT score helped me to become a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.I care deeply about what I do, but I think what really distinguishes me from many other tutors is my flexibility and commitment to the individual. I work around my students' individual needs and learning styles so that hardworking students can achieve the academic success they deserve!
I am a graduate from Fordham University with a BS in Biology and recently graduated with my MPH in Global Health and Epidemiology from NYU. I am passionate about the intersection between biology, statistics, infectious disease and health equity,
Victoria Bourgeois-Conti is a math major in the Fordham University Honors Program. She found a love for teaching math when she began volunteer tutoring her freshman year of high school, and she is passionate about providing students the support they need to understand a concept. She believes in learning through questions and conversation, and aims to break each topic into its most clear and simple form. Victoria is a very patient and positive tutor who would love to meet you! (SAT: 1600, ACT: 36, AP Calc BC: 5)

I am a recent graduate of Fordham University, with a B.A. in Music and Philosophy. I have taken coursework in and have a great passion for all areas of learning, particularly in Humanities. As a Tutor, I have guided students through difficult texts and aided them with essay writing for three years. I have also tutored voluntarily, working with underprivileged youth, in SAT and college preparation. I am passionate about culture and the Arts; hence I teach a broad range of subjects, from Religious Studies to Music Theory. As my majors suggest, I am particularly strong with Philosophy and Music. What I love most of all, is learning new subjects for and with my students. My teaching style is dynamic. It's tailored to each student and subject. I work at whatever pace best suits them. I relate subject material to the student’s other interests to best engage him or her. The only things I keep the same for every student are the values I encourage: thoroughness and patience with regard to work ethic, curiosity and appreciation with regard to the material. Outside of tutoring, I like to listen to and compose music, read and write literature, play video games, and follow contemporary politics.
I am a graduate of Harvard University, Fordham University, and the Mindful Schools' Yearlong Certification Program in Mindfulness* Education. During my undergraduate years at Harvard, I studied Sociology and African Studies and spent a semester studying and discovering another culture in Accra, Ghana, in West Africa. After working in Ghana for a year after graduation, I returned to the United States, received my Master's from Fordham through the New York City Teaching Fellows program, and spent the last six years teaching a wide range of subjects, including mindfulness, in Brooklyn public middle and high schools. I have also worked as a teacher trainer and coach. Right now, I am applying to doctoral programs, teaching mindfulness to people of all ages (both one-on-one and in groups), and tutoring. My passion lies in helping students achieve their potential by providing high-quality, tailored instruction coupled with skillful, compassionate attention to the variety of factors that affect each student's ability to succeed, such as environmental stressors and self-limiting beliefs. I enjoy tutoring students in anything Englishrelated, especially college and grad school personal statement writing and academic writing in general, as well as middle school math, pre-algebra, and algebra. In my spare time, I love to dance, learn languages, attend yoga classes, read about anything and everything, drink tea, and hear people's life stories.*Mindfulness refers to paying nonjudgmental, compassionate attention to whatever arises in one's moment-to-moment experience, such as thoughts and feelings, training people to become more aware of what they are experiencing, replacing impulsive reactions with more thoughtful responses. Research has found that mindfulness training has a significant effect on students' and teachers' focus, stress management, impulse control, and relationships.
Global Business student studying Finance at Fordham University NYC. I'm very enthusiastic about combining my passion for interacting with others and sharing skills and knowledge to aim for brighter futures!
I am an attorney. I have tutored children for many years as I am an avid learner. Two of my own children have some learning issues and I have worked with them to achieve success. This gave me the ability to tutor other children as I have seen what works with students and what does not work. The key to academic success is confidence. Without confidence there can be no progress.I give each child the tools that they need to boost their confidence and achieve success academically
Hiya! My name is Joe Rozek and I would like to be your tutor. In the past I studied philosophy at Vassar College, ecology at Fordham University and then at Lehigh University I had a brief stint as a PhD student in evolutionary biology. There I quickly found out that I was more keen on teaching than I was on doing research and have since transferred to obtain my teaching certificate in high school biology. Despite my many years in biology, I never found it to be easy. Science is hard. There's a great deal of memorization associated with the subject, as well as difficult concepts and esoteric terminology. Let me help you by lending you my expertise in effectively studying and learning biology.
I have enjoyed "teaching" since I was a little girl. Through the years, I have helped my nieces and nephews with their schoolwork, science projects... I have also homeschooled my daughter during Covid, and now she is way ahead in her studies. I love spelling, reading, writing, reading comprehension, math... I have edited and proofread many of my husband's novels that he has written. I have helped elementary, junior high, high school and college aged students with numerous projects, reports, homework. I love teaching others, and I absolutely love when we achieve the results we set out to conquer. I have a Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology because I wanted to be a lawyer. However, teaching was always my dream and passion. This job would help me achieve my goals of helping others with their schoolwork.
