Everyone has the potential to learn and become the BEST version of themselves. I truly enjoy teaching and have 18 years experience as a middle school English/social studies instructor. Recently, I received my adminstration credentials in the state of Virginia, and I am excited to be of assistance in strengthening your educational journey!

I truly believe that all children can be successful in school. Over the past 16 years of teaching elementary and middle school, I have seen children thrive and excel in otherwise difficult subjects if they have the tools to approach learning. I am well versed in differentiated instruction, am creative, and always get to really know my students and their learning styles so that I can help them. In addition to my teaching experience, I have given many workshops on the Common Core State Standards and know what is required to be successful on state tests.

I am college graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics. I graduated with high honors and was an involved member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. I have previous experience tutoring at East Stroudsburg University and tutoring online.Tutoring is my passion. I love to help students realize their full potential and facilitate achievement of academic objectives and goals. As a tutor, I have found that students have a variety of learning styles, and I adapt accordingly to help them better comprehend their most challenging mathematical concepts.

I believe that science should be made fun and relevant. In my teachings I use as many real life examples as possible. I do not emphasize memorization, but rather an understanding of the process and the relationships that exist. If one tries to learn science by memorization, there is simply too much information. However, if one understands the relationships that exist between factors, then one can apply a consistent process to solve the problem.I believe that all students want to know their teacher/tutor is in it with them. I strive to establish a personal connection with my students. That means I let them get to know me as a person to some degree and not just as a teacher. Once this connection is established, learning takes place at a faster pace.I am willing to do whatever it takes to help a student advance as long as the student is willing to put the effort in themself. I believe that education must be self-owned - that students have to claim their right to an education by demanding to be challenged and working to meet that challenge.

Hey, I'm Nicole! I'm a grad student studying Athletic Training and I'll be graduating May 2021. I did my undergrad at SUNY Oswego in Wellness Management with a minor in Nutrition. Looking forward to meeting students and can't wait to help out!

I presently have my Masters in Teaching with a certification in Elementary Teaching K-5 and a Special Education Certification. As well, I have my Supervisor of Instruction Certification. I received my teaching degrees from Saint Peter's University. I plan on attending New Jersey City University in the fall to complete the Learning Disabilities Teaching Consultant certification program.I have been teaching for seven years. I have taught children from age 2 to 8th grade! I am currently teaching in a first grade. Here I am the lead teacher in an inclusion classroom with one aide including ESL, special and regular education students. I enjoy teaching students using different learning styles while incorporating technology on a daily basis. I also am an Early Interventionist. I provide services to children with certain developmental disabilities or delays from infancy to age three.Three years ago I was teaching in a a self-contained classroom. I would instruct students individually and in groups, adapting teaching methods to meet students' varying needs and interests.I tutor in all subject areas- specializing in ages 2-8. I have been trained in Wilson Learning and Orton Gillingham. I have come to realize how important education is for the guidance of young children. I hope to establish an atmosphere of learning and an aspiration for continuous knowledge in each student. I have a tremendous love for children and place a very high standard on learning.I love swimming especially in the summer. In my free time I enjoy traveling! I love experiencing new things and learning how to do something different. This summer I plan to learn how to kayak and paddle board.

One of my core values can be summed up in two words: "Students First." I tell all students, online and offline, that if I am not in class or asleep, it is an office hour. I believe that it is my duty to be as accessible as possible. I believe that all of my students find comfort in the fact that there is someone they can turn to for clarification on a myriad of topics. I also bring a firm understanding that many of our students have a great deal of responsibilities. Along with working full time and maintaining their studies many students are "sandwiched" between taking care of their children as well as caring for their parents. With this understanding comes the requirement to be flexible, patient and empathetic. A cornerstone of my pedagogical philosophy is that I strive to help students understand difficult concepts through meaningful examples taken from their daily lives. If a student is going to take an interest in the subject matter, they are more likely to retain this information. I like to think of it as a sort of "School House Rock" approach to learning. For example, I was able to convey the microeconomic concept of the production possibilities frontier by having the students visualize a restaurant that produced two goods: salads and sandwiches. The production possibilities frontier is a simple model designed to depict the production capabilities of an economy given common resources, while assuming there are two broad classes of products, consumer goods and capital goods. Traditional economic textbooks love to use a "guns and butter" metaphor, but I have found that the salads and sandwiches example is much more effective. Students are able to quickly understand that they can use common ingredients like meat, cheese, vegetables, bread (rolls for the sandwich or croutons for the salad), and dressing to make sandwiches or salads and, in turn, maximize earnings. Unless the student is destined to become a contestant on "Jeopardy," I do not see the value in students having a plethora of academic knowledge at the ready. It is far more important that students are information literate and that they understand what information is needed, where to find it, how to evaluate it, and how to use it in everyday life.
