My name is Jack. I have a master's degree in mathematics, and I worked as an NTT faculty member of the Mathematics Department at Western Washington University from December of 2019 to December of 2021. During my time as a graduate teaching assistant and a full-time instructor for the Mathematics Department at Western Washington University, I taught business algebra, business calculus, differential calculus, integral calculus, college algebra, precalculus and trigonometry. Prior to graduate school, I was a mathematics tutor for four years. I am very passionate about helping people learn mathematics, and, barring statistics and conic sections(I haven't studied those things too much), I guarantee that I can help you in some way with any issue regarding mathematics that you, or someone for whom you are looking, may be having.

I'm an online tutor who helps students build real, usable skills and teaching content across writing, reading/ELA, math, and science from elementary foundations to high school rigor, including adult learners preparing for the GED. I bring 10+ years of experience working in school settings and 2+ years of tutoring experience, which helps me meet students where they are while keeping progress measurable and consistent. I also support test prep for the ACT, SAT, and ISEE, focusing on strategies, pacing, and accuracy under time pressure. Beyond content, I coach executive functioning and study skills organization, planning, and follow-throughs, so students can actually stick to a process when it matters. With degrees in Neuroscience and Philosophy, I keep sessions structured, concept-driven, and practical: we build understanding, apply it immediately, so students can become independent.
It wasn't until I made it to college that I realized I wanted to be a scientist. As a high school student, I was exceptionally mediocre at school. Fortunately I was accepted to Western Washington University. It was my time at Western that I found what I was capable of. Chemistry, and mathematics are such daunting subjects, I never imagined I would be able to grasp them, after all academics were not my strong suit. Through hard work, endless study sessions, and a blossoming passion I was able to prevail and call myself a scientist. My dream is to one day become a professor of biochemistry; a pursuit near to my heart. Biochemical interpretations of the world around us fascinate me, and I would like to share my excitement for the subject with you.
My students become life-long learners. Being curious, investigating what interests them, and having aha moments when they discover something new is what I strive for as a teacher.
For over a decade I have dedicated myself to making second language acquisition more efficient. Language study and language comprehension is more than a passion of mine, it is the center of my career and personal life. I pride myself in my abilities to learn how my students learn so that I can relate the material to them. Many students have often commented on how fun and laid back my lessons are too. I love having fun; and to me, nothing is more fun than learning about languages. My background and experiences are diverse, which allows me to empathize with my students. You'll often find me asking lots of questions to better learn how you are learning so that I can help make sense of the material. Each lesson is a mini journey that leaves everyone excited for the next one. I can't wait to help you learn and see that lightbulb go off over your head. As a native speaker of English I have a natural understanding of how it should sound and what the grammar should be. My formal education in linguistics at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA, USA allowed me to gain a much deeper understanding; and what's more, I took the majority of my classes in college in Spanish, French, and Mandarin Chinese. During my time in Taiwan, Germany, and France I gained a keen understanding of the Second Language Acquisition process from the perspective of the learner while being immersed. This background is what makes me well rounded, this is what drives me to be more effective as a tutor.
I am an audio engineer, artist and educator with a history of mathematic achievement and productive tutoring relationships. I am passionate about finding ways to learn that take away the toxic competition and shame elements of traditional schooling and highlights curiosity and fun.

I did my undergraduate at Michigan Tech University where I studying Environmental Sciences and Math, which consequently are my two favorite subjects to tutor! While these two may seem very different, at their core, they're all about how things work. I've always found that if you peak behind the curtain at how something works, nothing is as scary or difficult as it may seem. Let's figure it out together!
I am currently enjoying living in my home state of New Mexico, where I have spent my teaching years as a GED instructor and ESL teacher. Recently, I taught university English language learners through the Mexico-U.S. partnership program "Proyecta." Before that, I was halfway around the world teaching American culture and English as a foreign language at a private English school in Anshan, China. It is exciting and challenging for me to teach while immersed in a new cultures and meeting new people! I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my B.A. from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.I have intermediate working knowledge of Spanish and Mandarin Chinese and am always looking for ways to improve my language skills and knowledge of new things in general. My favorite things to tutor are math, writing, and chemistry, and English language. In my spare time I love dancing and cooking, sometimes both at the same time!
Every student deserves an educator who believes in them. As a passionate tutor with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Western Washington University, I have 5+ years of experience helping students excel in subjects such as Algebra, Geometry, computer programming, and more. Since graduating, I have worked with students of all ages teaching social-emotional learning through sports, arts, and STEM activities. My teaching philosophy centers on fostering resilience, approaching challenges with curiosity, and empowering students to harness their unique strengths to tackle any problem both in and out of the classroom.
The thing that makes me a great tutor is the fact that I don't give direct answers. I work with the student and what they know, and we build on that knowledge to answer his or her question. This way of tutoring helps him or her to become more self-sufficient and capable of doing these problems and reasoning the problems out for himself or herself in the future.
I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from Western Washington University with a focus on material science. The subsequent year I graduated from the University of California Riverside with a master's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have been tutoring for over four years, working with a wide variety of students. During my undergraduate studies I tutored gifted high school students looking to excel in AP and IB classes as well as on the SAT to prepare them for a strong college career. I also spent considerable time with college students in my field and similar programs. Students have always given positive reviews when I ask them about the experience, commenting that the time was enjoyable and that learning came naturally. In my opinion, this is the best way to truly learn something. Outside of the classroom, I have a large set of hobbies and interests. I enjoy basketball, tennis, road biking, mountain biking, skiing, running, chess, working on my car, watching football, and going to the gym.
I tutor because I know what it’s like to struggle in school. I’ll never forget the day my high school counselor told me I might never go to college. Her words stung, but the inspiration the words gave me is irreplaceable. She drove me to succeed. My new found motivation propelled me from a C student to the top ten percent of my graduating high school class. From there I began my degree in Biochemistry at Western Washington University, which I will receive in June 2015.I tutor chemistry, physics, biology and math. I also provide test prep for the SAT and MCAT. I have worked at my university’s tutoring center for over a year. This taught me to teach quickly and effectively. I never had more than 15 minutes with a student, but my job depended on my ability to help them understand a concept, whether it was algebra or organic chemistry. I also worked with the Compass 2 Campus program, where I tutored and mentored middle school students from low-income schools.I always like to get to know the students I work with. I love hearing about their goals and interests. It allows me to tailor my style to each individual student, and make coursework relevant to them. I hold all my students to high standards, but I give everything I’ve got to make sure they achieve them.
