I'm a CPA with over 25 years of experience working with accounting in real business environmentsand I genuinely enjoy helping students understand it clearly and confidently. I've spent my career using the same topics you're learning in class right now: financial statements, cash flows, valuation, GAAP, and complex accounting problems. Today, I work as a Director of Accounting at a large financial services company, where I help solve challenging accounting issues tied to major business decisions. Earlier in my career, I worked as an auditor at Deloitte, which gave me a strong foundation in core accounting principles and exam tested material. What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to break down complicated topics into simple, logical steps. I've mentored professionals and students for years, and I focus on helping concepts clicknot just memorizing formulas or rules. If accounting feels confusing, overwhelming, or disconnected from real life, I'm here to help make it clearer and less stressful. Whether you're preparing for an exam or just trying to keep up with class, we'll work through it together. If you think this could help, feel free to reach out and schedule a sessionI'd be glad to work with you.

I received my undergraduate degree at the University of Northern Iowa in K-12 Spanish and K-12 TESOL. I have also received a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an Emphasis in TESOL through Buena Vista University and a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology at the Univeristy of Northern Iowa. In between my two Master's degrees, I also obtained a reading/language arts endorsement at Drake Univeristy. I am in my 21st year of teaching. I taught elementary K-6 ESL for eight years before moving to the secondary level where I have taught grades 7-12. I currently teach high school ESOL for students in grades 10-12. I have also co-taught in several content classes. Most of my co-taught experiences are in English 2 (sophomore level), Biology, and English Concepts (an English class for at-risk or struggling students. For the past two and a half years, I have virtually taught English to students in China. I have also virtually tutored elementary, middle, and high school aged students in English and reading in other states in the US. I believe that every student can be successful in learning with the right tools and motivation. Students have individual needs and it is my job to help meet those needs; if they are struggling, then they are going to become disengaged and uninterested and learning will not occur. When I teach, my goal is to meet students where they are and give them the tools and motivation to learn. I also want to make learning relevant to students, especially with stuggling or disengaged students. When they can see the broader picture or can connect how the learning is, or will be, important to life after school, then they are more motivated to learn. I consider myself a life long learner. I tell my students that I learn from them as they learn from me. We learn together.
I received my Bachelor's in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Iowa. I have first-hand experience teaching elementary students in whole group, small group, and 1:1 instruction. Along with my elementary education teaching certificate, I hold endorsements in teaching K-8 reading, K-8 English/language arts, and K-8 social studies. Prior to receiving my teaching degree, I was a special education paraeducator. In this role, I worked 1:1 with students who had academic and behavior IEPs. My sole purpose for getting my teaching certification is to provide equitable academic experiences for all students so they may be confident and successful in their learning. One of my favorite things to teach is reading because it was something I struggled with as an elementary student. I now enjoy helping students learn the skills they need to prosper in their academic experience and develop a hunger for learning.
Teaching is more than simply conveying information from one person to another, it's about building skills, harnessing thought, and opening the world. I teach because I love learning.I am an adjunct professor for a small private regional university and teach in the area of government and management. I have a masters degree in public policy from the University of Northern Iowa and a masters degree in business administration from Texas A&M. I also hold a bachelors degree in political science.I have worked in the public and non-profits sectors for the majority of my professional life, mostly in city government and community development.
I believe we are born with a desire to learn and that, with the right light, we can each continue on that journey throughout or lives. No one person understands or internalizes each lesson in exactly the same way, although many of the basic principles are the bases for this understanding and future growth. It is here where we are charged to help others understand in a manner that best accommodates their learning, and then empower them with the tools (and desire) to seek out those answers on their own.
