I have been a big sister since I was 18 months old and I believe that is when my love for nurturing others began. I have always loved children and watching them grow. Nothing is better than watching a child have the "lightbulb" go off in their head. This is why I plan to pursue a career in teaching. I would love to be a kindergarten teacher and watch not only as they grow in the year that they are my students but watch as they blossom into young scholars. My love for children and love for helping people makes teaching young children my dream career.

My name is Kelly, and I am in my third year of teaching. I currently teach kindergarten through fourth grade special education and have previously taught kindergarten as well. I love working with students and helping each child reach their full potential. I believe that each student is capable of learning and strive to instill a love of learning in all of my students. In my classroom, student growth is celebrated and each student receives individualized instruction in order to successfully master skills. I consistently utilize researched based instructional practices to ensure that students receive the most effective education possible.I have experience teaching kindergarten through fourth grade in a variety of settings. I taught in an urban school setting my first year and am currently in a rural school setting. I also completed my student teaching on the Navajo reservation, working primarily with students who were English language learners. I had the opportunity to spend the summer of 2015 in China, teaching students English through an intensive learning camp. Throughout college I also volunteered at Girls, Inc. in their homework help room. My love of teaching started in high school when I was a peer tutor for the essential skills classroom. Currently, I teach special education and have experience with a various types of learners.

I am a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington (IUB), where I earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, Psychology, and Neuroscience. Through my experience as a student, undergraduate teaching assistant (peer tutor/AI), and research mentor, I learned that effective and empowering learning is mostly about HOW you study as opposed to HOW MUCH you study. My best teachers always taught me to focus on solidifying the big picture (high yield) concepts first and add in smaller (low yield) details afterwards. This practice of breaking down complex ideas into fundamental first principles made me understand just how powerful knowledge could be and how it could be used to solve the world's hardest problems. This made even the smallest and most tedious of details easy to learn. I applied these same concepts to my students with tremendous success. In the process of learning and teaching, I fell in love with fostering "aha" moments while sharing my most passionate academic interests with others. Ultimately, that's why I'm here at Varsity Tutors! I want to give all of you the best of the teaching experiences that I was given, as well as include the things that I always wish that I had. While I tutor in almost every subject, I'm most passionate about Spanish and the sciences. Spanish gave me an entirely new culture to explore and people to connect to, while science helped me understand just how incredible our universe can be. Consequently, both are near and dear to my heart. Shortly after graduating college in 2019, I started the Medical Scientist Training Program at the Indiana University School of Medicine. I am fortunate to be simultaneously working towards my MD and towards a PhD in Neuroscience. I want to use my career to improve our understanding and management of psychiatric conditions as well as to train the next generation of great thinkers and innovators. Outside of academia, I like to compete in Olympic weightlifting, travel, do outdoorsy and adventurous things, listen and dance to hip hop, and spend time with the homies. I'm constantly discovering new passions, and firmly believe that personal growth is just as important as academic development.

My name is Rachel, and I have a true passion for teaching. I have a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Indiana University. I am currently finishing my Master's in Education with a concentration in teaching English language learning. I have taught English language learners for two years in a public elementary school as a classroom teacher. As a teacher, I strive to engage children through incorporating visual and kinesthetic learning into all of my lessons. I strive to identify and meet the individual needs of each student I teach. I am a very energetic and excited teacher who loves working with students of all ages. Outside of teaching, I am a wife and a mother to my six-month-old baby. I love spending time with my family, running, reading, learning my second language (Spanish), and volunteering as a coach and in my church.

Helping others learn and master new skills that will improve performance in school and beyond is very fulfilling to me. Each student brings a unique set of resources and ambitions to the table and I embrace the challenge of trying out different approaches and strategies until the student finds out what "clicks." That is the point at which the student has developed a method for taking in, synthesizing and manifesting understanding of virtually any topic and sets a path for academic and professional success.

I believe in the art/practice of giving back to education. I am a current practicing physician assistant in Family Medicine and I have experience working with people of all ages. I believe that everyone will respond to different teaching methods, and by allowing a professional relationship to take place, we can further see the relationship between school and real world application. I have a bachelor's degree in Biology, as well as a Master of Medical Science in the field of physician assistant studies.

I have had the privilege of working one-on-one with individuals (students and adults) for the last several years with various academic capabilities. I am truly a social person that loves interacting with others and helping them learn and develop stronger skills to help them be successful. I believe it is important to be flexible and have the ability to modify teaching approaches to best fit the individual.I received my Education Specialist degree in Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University (IU). I also did my undergraduate work at IU, earning a Psychology and Criminal Justice degree. Throughout my time in college, I took a variety of English courses and truly enjoyed learning and becoming a strong writer. Because of this, I hope to tutor individuals who may need help with writing, English, grammar, etc.I have also been able to teach ESL for the last 4 years in an online format. I love teaching students English, vocabulary, story-telling, reading, and grammar.Outside of working and teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family - my husband and our two children. We love swimming, reading, and traveling. I also enjoy Harry Potter, movies, and Italian food.

I started peer tutoring in 8th grade and have tutored in multiple subjects ever since. I studied foreign languages with a focus on Spanish at Indiana University. Learning Spanish opens doors to many amazing and beautiful cultures. I also have experience tutoring math and ELA. Whichever of these subjects you need help with I'm happy to help!

My purpose in life is helping others. I am planning my career in Occupational Therapy. I want make a difference in the lives of others. I have a B.S. degree in Kinesiology from Indiana University - Bloomington. I have a decade+ of work experience in various careers including sales, coaching, healthcare, and the mortgage industry. All of my life experiences involve working with and helping people in different capacities. I want to help students learn and grow. As a former Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) for both introductory biology and upper level genetics, I greatly value accessibility in education. In May 2020, I earned a Bachelors of Science in biology while minoring in chemistry and Spanish. I live and breathe with a passion for mathematics and economics. Naturally, I love preaching the mathematical and economic principles alongside their real-world applications. However, if you are coming to me simply looking to meet the necessary and sufficient conditions to pass a particular course I am more than happy to oblige. I have been an educator in grades K-5 for the past 12 years in Elementary and Special Education. I received my Bachelor's degree in both Elementary and Special Education from Indiana University. I then received by Master's Degree in Proactive Discipline from Butler University. Most recently, I have been a Social Emotional Learning coach for my school district serving staff and students in 8 Elementary schools. I can support students with ALL needs in math, literacy, science, social studies and social and emotional learning! I have experience private tutoring in all academic areas and Social Emotional learning as well. My teaching philosophy is to allow learners to explore through an inquiry through a trusting environment in which they have a strong relational connection with their teacher along with providing high rigorous instruction.
