I'm Asami. I am a second year graduate student at Central Connecticut State University in TESOL program. I graduated from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in Japan in 2015 with a BA in Polish studies. Learning English and Polish made me realize how fun it is to be able to communicate with people from other countries. I have more than 4 years teaching/tutoring experience of English (to Japanese students), and 2 years tutoring experience of Japanese. As a native speaker of Japanese who was born and raised in Japan, I can teach both the language and the culture.Through my learning experience as a TESOL student, I learned a lot about teaching English. Since I learned English as my second language, I know what is difficult to non-native speakers of English well.I chose my undergrad major (Polish studies) because I love Chopin. I've been playing the piano since I was 4 years old, and received several awards at competitions including Silver Award for elementary school grade 3 at the 4th International Chopin Piano Competition in ASIA.I always respond within one day. Feel free to contact me anytime for any questions!

I first began tutoring when I was in 5th grade. I was outside of my home playing with the locals, when a parent came up to me and said, "You look smart enough, come help my son in math." I was a little shy and nervous at the time, plus the fact that her son was 3 years older than me, I wasn't sure what to expect. The first day of tutoring I looked at his homework and said to him this looks pretty easy. After a few more sessions he told me he wanted to show me something, he pulled out a quiz he took and pointed at his %100. He told me it was the first %100 ever; I took out a $20 bill and told him this is my first $20 ever (his mother paid me for tutoring him that day). Since then I have been tutoring in various capacities, from high school students to siblings. My goal is to ensure that everyone I interact with are one step closer to being successful.
I have a wild passion for education and it's my desire to share that with growing students. I have had the privilege to study with some brilliant individuals at Quinnipiac University, where I majored in Health Science studies and dabbled in some laboratory investigation. Since then, I have transferred into Central Connecticut State University to pursue psychology and biology. I have some experience in assisting students in grasping new concepts while sitting in on some general chemistry classes in high school, and it's wonderful to spread a comprehension and a love for subjects that are traditionally perceived as difficult.I also enjoy horseback riding, which I have participated in for 11 years, as well as choral and orchestral music. I believe that all students can have an understanding for even the most difficult topics, as long as it is displayed in a way that appeals to their interests and learning styles.

I come from a family of teachers, as my mother was an elementary school music teacher for 35 years and her sister was a preschool teacher. I did very well in school, including college and graduate school, I wanted to help others learn how to study effectively and remember information. I have developed a desire to help people achieve their educational goals and succeed in an academic setting. I first began substitute teaching in the 1990s and felt like I was really making an impact on students' motivation to learn. I completed my student teaching in Spanish in 2003 at East Hartford High School (Connecticut). Soon thereafter, I began working for a private company as a tutor for students with special needs, as well as those with English as their second language (in reading, writing, and math). At this point, I also took on a few private tutoring jobs, with someone of Japanese descent, as well as a couple students who were of Mexican descent. I worked at an autism spectrum school for about four years as a direct care staff person. I taught Spanish to two adolescents while there. I also experienced growth myself, as I had not realized how important socialization is to learning. As you may or may not know, socialization is a big barrier to many students on the spectrum. Finally, I have been substitute teaching in the Albany, NY area, which renewed my interest in being an instructor/facilitator/guide to struggling students. During this time, I had also tutored an international graduate college student (from Saudi Arabia) in Educational Psychology in preparation for her Early Childhood degree. I felt like this experience opened my eyes even more about cultural differences, and was a challenge that I was prepared to meet.

I am an honors program scholar graduate of Central Connecticut State University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and graduated from the University's School of Education. Throughout my time in school and since I graduated, I have tutored countless students of all ages in math in groups and individually. I have also worked in math classrooms alongside teachers assisting the students. I have also worked with students who needed help with their SAT prep. I have experience working with students who are younger and also students who are in college and I greatly enjoy working with any topics within mathematics. My favorite math topics to tutor are pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, but I like to work with all other topics as well. I choose to tutor because I would like to make a difference in the lives of the students I work with and help them, just as others have helped me throughout my school career. Outside of tutoring, I coach soccer and have done so for many years, I like to listen to music, and I enjoy cooking.
After graduating from high school, I proudly served four years in the military, an experience that shaped my discipline, work ethic, and commitment to helping others succeed. Following my service, I attended Central Connecticut State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. I then went on to earn my Juris Doctor and became a licensed attorney after passing the bar exam. Along the way, I discovered a passion for teaching and mentorship. I've worked as both a substitute teacher and a mathematics tutor, gaining valuable experience supporting students at different levels. I tutor a wide range of subjects, but I'm especially passionate about ASVAB preparation, bar exam preparation, English, literature, history, civics, and math. When working with students, I focus on making lessons engaging and relatable. I strongly believe it can open doors and improve opportunities, and I strive to share that perspective with every student I work with.
I am a graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor's degree in Music and an experienced tutor across many subject areas, with a strong concentration in elementary reading and math. I bring over five years of tutoring experience and hold a High-Impact Tutoring Certification from Arizona State University (earned November 2025). I tailor each session to a student's unique learning style using interactive activities, structured practice, and individualized pacing to build confidence and mastery. Helping students achieve meaningful "aha" moments and measurable progress is what drives my passion for tutoring. Outside of teaching, I enjoy music, reading, traveling, movies, and yoga, which help me connect with students and create an engaging, supportive learning environment.
An outstanding teacher has the skills and rapport to convey content in a meaningful and accessible manner to meet the needs of their students. An outstanding teacher can connect with students and use their interests to help guide instruction and expand student horizons. In addition, the outstanding teacher should be a skilled leader who can make all students feel welcomed and valued in the classroom to motivate students to strive for their best. The ability to promote equity and reflect in teaching practices further improves one's teaching ability. An outstanding teacher will collaborate with colleagues to refine teaching practices and share ideas and continue to find ways to growth professionally. The first step in addressing a wide range of skills and abilities in your classroom is to get to know the students to allow for student strengths and interests to help drive the learning environment. Leading about student needs, backgrounds, ambitions, goals, learning preferences, or favorite sport will all matter when addressing the needs in your classroom moving forward. After building strong connections with students, it will make facilitating differentiated instruction meaningful to content, process, and products to meet the skills and abilities in the classroom. Throughout the employing of these strategies and practices the need for reflection and refinement are necessary to help make students supported yet challenged.
