Certified Medical Assistant Exam Tutor • +3 Subjects
Training and mentoring the next generation of healthcare workers is what I am most passionate about.I have spent the last 10 years directly in the classroom teaching medical assisting, medical terminology, clinical skills, and certification preparation CCMA (NHA) with a 100% pass rate for many of my previous cohorts. My education and career path began as a medical assistant (MA), progressed to a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) then registered nurse (RN),and finally to my current role as a Career Technical Education (CTE) Instructor. With my nursing training from LAC-USC Medical Center, and my teaching experience with LAUSD-DACE (one of the largest school districts of adult and career education in the nation), I am excited to offer learners a unique perspective of medical assistant certification exam preparation. My plan follows a process of proven success with results that exceed the national average pass rate. My expertise includes guided utilization of the NHA online study materials, practice exams, and the test plans. My philosophy is simple: Teach and mentor the student to be the empathetic, passionate, competent healthcare worker that I would hope for myself or my loved one. Prepare them for success.

Biology Tutor • +18 Subjects
Hello,As a retired physician with 18 years of clinical and educational experience, I have always found that teaching, tutoring and/or mentoring students was one of my favorite challenges with the most rewards. Providing patient care was certainly rewarding, but after leaving clinical medicine, I decided to continue educating by tutoring both undergraduate and graduate students in subjects relevant to pursuing a career in healthcare. I thoroughly enjoy watching students grow and mature as they learn to work towards their goals.Subjects I tutor include General Biology, AP Biology, College Biology, Cell Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Psychology (all facets), Clinical Psychology and Medical Terminology. But, my real areas of expertise include Neuroscience, Pathophysiology, Psychopathology, Pharmacology and Psychopharmacology. Other topics of personal interest include medical ethics, the sociological impact of trauma and, the impact of the internet and social media on "post-COVID-19" educational platforms. After receiving my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and my M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin, I went on to do my post-graduate training in Psychiatry in the U.S. Air Force serving military personnel and their families at Wilford Hall Medical Center in Texas. I then went on to complete a fellowship in HIV/AIDS psychiatry in New York City. While working in various clinical and educational settings around the country, I have had many opportunities to observe, understand and embrace people from various cultural backgrounds. It still amazes me when students come from abroad, knowing minimal English, yet strive so hard to achieve their goals while also having to learn the "language" of the medical field. And so my teaching philosophy is simple: ANYONE can learn ANYTHING if they have the tools, the determination and willingness to do so. Socioeconomic barriers should NEVER dissuade a student from receiving a quality education.Because every person is unique, I tailor my tutoring based on the individual needs and goals of my students. Therefore, I like to know a bit about a student's life, both in and outside the classroom. It is essential for creating a unique learning plan. I teach students "how" to think, rather than just "what" to think. This, I believe, is the cornerstone of effective problem solving and innovation. Asking Google or Alexa for an answer is not permitted with my students UNLESS the student has a solid grasp of the subject matter at hand. One of my favorite teaching techniques is explaining a complicated topic using everyday life examples or anecdotes from my experiences.I strongly encourage all my students to be curious, ask questions and then challenge them with questions as well. Ask me anything and I'll know the answer about 75% of the time; the rest we find out together. I learn from my students as much as I hope they learn from me. Learning how to take whatever data or information is given and then thinking about HOW to use it to solve a problem or arrive at the answer is one of the key elements to being successful inside and outside the classroom as well as in life.Outside of my tutoring commitments, I enjoy the solitude of a walk by the lake, reading a fascinating murder/horror mystery, watching vintage films, hanging out with good friends having "cell-phone-free" conversation and spending time with my ever so energetic cat, Taki.Hopefully if you are reading this you are interested in one or more of the topics I tutor. I can only guarantee that you and I working together as a team will get you over any subject matter hurdles you might have. Passing, failing, getting the A or satisfying a requirement is ultimately your responsibility. I am only here to guide you with ways I know work for you to succeed.

Hello, I am currently attending University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I completed my Associates in Science in 2016.I have worked as a professor assistant for a college math class for a semester. I also tutor my classmate for the different courses. My favorite subject to tutor is math because of its beauty of having a link with every other technical subjects. I like to put myself as a student when I tutor so I can understand the problem a student is having and then from there solving all problem one by one. I believe in the motto "Never a failure, always a lesson." so we should keep learning and expanding our horizon of knowledge regardless of failure we have.

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects students across San Antonio's 42 school districts and 624 schools with personalized tutoring support. With over 333,000 students in the San Antonio area, we work with families from SAISD, North East ISD, Northside ISD, and other districts throughout the region to provide customized instruction that fits each student's unique needs.
Texas has specific learning standards across math, reading, science, and social studies that students must master at each grade level. Tutors work with San Antonio students to strengthen foundational skills, build confidence in tested subjects, and develop the critical thinking strategies needed to succeed on STAAR assessments and in the classroom. Personalized instruction allows tutors to focus on the exact areas where each student needs support.
San Antonio students frequently seek support in math (especially algebra and geometry), reading comprehension, and science—subjects that are heavily tested under Texas standards. Many students also benefit from tutoring in English language arts to strengthen writing skills, and in test preparation for STAAR, SAT, and ACT exams. Tutors can also help with Spanish language instruction, a valuable skill in San Antonio's diverse community.
With an average student-teacher ratio of 14.5:1 across San Antonio's school districts, classroom teachers often have limited time for individualized attention. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring fills that gap by providing dedicated support focused entirely on a student's learning style, pace, and specific challenges—something that's difficult to achieve in a traditional classroom setting.
The first session is designed to build rapport and understand your student's goals, strengths, and areas for improvement. A tutor will assess your student's current knowledge in the subject, discuss what they're working on in school, and create a personalized plan for how tutoring can best support their learning. This foundation helps tutors tailor instruction to match your student's needs from day one.
Yes. While many San Antonio families connect with tutors for math, reading, and science support, tutors also help with subjects like social studies, foreign languages (including Spanish), test preparation, writing skills, and even study strategies. Whatever subject your student is taking in school, Varsity Tutors can help match them with a tutor who has expertise in that area.
San Antonio's 42 school districts each have their own curriculum frameworks and pacing guides, which is why personalized tutoring is so valuable. Tutors work with students from SAISD, North East ISD, Northside ISD, and other districts throughout the area and understand how to support students within their specific district's approach to learning. When you connect with a tutor, you can share details about your student's school and curriculum so instruction aligns perfectly.
Yes. Many San Antonio families use summer tutoring to help students maintain skills over the break, get ahead before the new school year, or catch up on concepts that were challenging during the year. Summer is also a great time for test prep (STAAR, SAT, ACT) or to build confidence in a subject before advancing to the next level. Tutors can work with your schedule to provide flexible support during the summer months.
