About Me

I am a sophomore Chemical Engineering major at NYU. I was born in New York but when I was very young, I moved to Pakistan, where I lived a large part of my life. I came back for college and now, I live 40 minutes away from where I used to live 17 years ago. I hope to work in the renewable energy sector after I graduate. Renewable energy is the future and it is vital that we take it seriously. I'm a huge cricket, soccer, movie and T.V show lover. I also love travelling and experiencing different cultures. Living in the New York these past 2 years has been the greatest experience of my life by far and I want to continue it as long as possible. Last Spring, I worked as a academic tutor at a New York Public School for America Reads and Counts NYU. I taught second graders subjects like Math, Science and English. Back home in Pakistan, I taught underprivileged primary school and high school children Math and Science for close to 5 years between 2010 and 2015.The entire experience was very rewarding since these students actually had a passion for studying. They knew the importance of an education and how it would impact their lives. The whole experience greatly increased my love for teaching. As a teacher, it is important to realize that there is no single method of teaching. Not all students can be taught the same way. Some of them require a little bit of guidance initially and they figure everything out themselves. Others need a bit more help every step of the way and recognizing the students' needs early on is vital. Building their confidence is the key.
