About Me

My name is Erin Dorset, and I am excited about the opportunity to be your next tutor! My educational background and teaching experience collectively make me an excellent tutor. I am a recent graduate of Illinois State University with a Master's degree in Biological Sciences (GPA 4.0), with special interests in ecology and conservation. Before that, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology at SUNY Geneseo (GPA 3.89). I also attended Shenendehowa High School and excelled in all subjects, particularly Science and English. As a graduate student, I taught biology labs for five semesters, which gave me experience in both running a full classroom and in working one-on-one with students. Additionally, as an undergraduate student, I spent a semester as a biology teaching assistant, where I helped coordinate lab activities and answer students' questions. I have also spent time as an assistant coach for a high school cross-country ski team, where I gained the ability to teach students skills outside of a classroom setting. Because I have worked with students with diverse educational and personal backgrounds in a variety of settings, I am well-qualified to be your tutor. I believe that students who are motivated can achieve anything that they set their minds to, and I enjoy tutoring because I like helping students gain confidence in their abilities and achieve their goals. I also believe that many students learn differently from others, which is why I like to personalize lessons as much as possible based on the learning style of the student. I am patient, kind, and enthusiastic, and would love to become your tutor! I tutor students in several subject areas, including: Ecology, Biology, ACT Science, ACT Reading, and ACT English.
