About Me

Welcome to Varsity Tutors! My name is Katherine, but you can call me Katie. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Moravian College and a Master of Science in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases from the University of Pittsburgh. I have tutored throughout my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I am currently working at Drexel University College of Medicine as a Research Assistant. Our lab is predominately researching HIV.I have loved science since I watched "Outbreak" as a child. It is so fascinating that something as small as a virus or bacteria can wreck so much havoc on the body. I finish off my nerd pedigree with a love for StarTalk Radio, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and the Big Bang Theory. In my spare time I enjoy running (I've run 5 half marathons and had to recently stop training for a full marathon due to a stress fracture in my foot), hanging out with friends, and exploring Philadelphia. I like to tutor by having conversations with students. I don't pretend to have all of the answers, but together I hope to be able to work through any questions that you may have. Memorization and understanding are two different things, and the more you understand the more you'll remember!
