I am proud to say that the eleven-year-old Vietnamese girl and boy that I tutored for 5 years are both attending Medical school. In addition, I am proud to say that I speak, write and read in French, English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Italian proficiently. Whenever I tell people that I speak French, they often assume that it is not my mother tongue language because I have no accent in English. I am always proud to say that I did not know how to speak English until I was 16 years of age. Learning a language is like cracking a secret code. Once you decode it, the treasure is yours.

I am a highly dedicated, creative, and passionate educator with a Master of Arts in Teaching Foreign Languages with a Major in French from the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education & Counseling, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Lewis & Clark College, with whom I had a full tuition undergraduate scholarship. I have over 15 years of experience in education, including over 10 years of experience teaching French. I earned my 5-year FL Professional Certificate for World Language - French, Grades K-12, the highest teaching certificate the state of FL has to offer.
I'm a educator and visual artist with many years of experience teaching and tutoring high school and college students. I have a BA in Political Science from New College of Florida and a MFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. While I'm a photographer by trade, I also have a passion for and expertise in Math and the Natural Sciences -- as well as French and Spanish, having studied and worked in both Paris and Central America. While I'm proficient now, I struggled with both languages early on, and understand the challenges of both starting a new language and in moving from a conversational to a more proficient level. I'm also available for ACT and SAT test prep -- and work especially well with students who are visual learners (though I have a wide range of materials and resources for all styles of learning!).
I am committed to serving others and guaranteeing the success of my students. My passion is helping those in need and alleviating struggle, especially with academics! I especially love working with the French language.
I am passionate about business, economics, and management and have nearly ten years of experience. I believe that when one teaches, two learn-the student and the teacher.
I am an avid cook, and I love spending time outdoors.
Crystal spent a full year teaching English in France and served as a French drill instructor at Dartmouth, so she knows the AP French curriculum from both sides of the language barrier. She zeroes in on the presentational speaking and writing tasks that tank scores — teaching students to structure persuasive arguments in French and deploy subjunctive, conditional, and idiomatic expressions with confidence.
As a second-year medical student with a strong foundation in science and a passion for education, I specialize in making tough subjects easier to understand. I excel in math, biology, physics, and other challenging topics that often intimidate students and I genuinely enjoy helping others master them. My approach combines patience, clarity, and high-level understanding to break down complex ideas into manageable, confidence-boosting lessons. Whether it's reviewing homework or prepping for exams, I'm here to support and motivate students at any level below mine to reach their full academic potential. My interests include: Weightlifting and fitness training (especially strength and hypertrophy programs) Morning cardio and physical conditioning Studying medicine with a focus on anatomy, physiology, and clinical problem-solving Teaching and tutoring tough academic subjects like math, biology, and physics Watching anime as a way to relax and recharge (especially after a long day) Cooking (with a focus on high-protein, keto/carnivore meals)
I'm reveling in this most recent stop on my long and exciting academic path.
I am a lifelong francophile who has lived in Paris, France for almost a year. I am also an avid NCAA men's and women's basketball fan! Go Rams! Go Terps!
I am a junior at Vanderbilt University studying Economics and Math, and I intend to get my PhD in Economics after graduating. Taking the GRE was the first step of my graduate admissions process, and I want to help others achieve similar success so that they can pursue their dreams. In addition, I enjoy tutoring economics and chemistry, as those are my favorite subjects. During my spare time, I like to play cello, read, and bake pies (especially peach pie).
I am senior at Brigham Young University with a 4.0 GPA. I am majoring in Exercise Science and am going to go to Physical Therapy school. I am also getting a minor in Psychology. I lived in France for two years and became fluent in the French language. I continue to converse with natives in French. I was a college chemistry TA for three semesters and love teaching chemistry. I did very well on standardized tests. I love to teach and impart knowledge to others in a way that is compatible with individual learning styles.
I'm New York City born and raised. I graduated from the University of Chicago last year with a degree in East Asian Languages and Civilizations. I am developing my own teaching methods to evolve traditional East Asian and French language acquisition, and to do this I need even more experience. My course of study has been directed at learning as much as I can about the culture, economy, and history of East Asia, China and Japan in particular. I view myself as someone who is entrepreneurial, collegial, individually motivated to produce high quality work, as well as foster a love of the subject which I teach. I am compassionate and enjoy working with both children and adults. I believe I have something to learn from everyone I meet.
I'm an MIT student with a background in mathematics and computer science. I love working with data and making sense of numbers. I hope I can share my passion for these subjects!
Computer engineering majors don't usually double-major in French — but Sasha did, which means her fluency was built through rigorous academic study alongside native-level coursework rather than casual exposure. She tackles the AP French exam's cultural comparison and persuasive essay tasks with the same structured precision she applies to engineering problems, breaking down how to deploy subjunctive constructions and formal register under timed conditions.
Having earned her MA in French from Middlebury and studied at the Sorbonne, Margaret knows exactly what AP French graders look for in the persuasive essay and the cultural comparison. She drills the presentational and interpersonal communication tasks with an emphasis on register, idiomatic accuracy, and building arguments that go beyond surface-level observations.
I am a graduate of the Ohio State University, where I completed a BA summa cum laude in linguistics and Romance studies with specializations in French, Spanish, and Italian. I then completed a JD at Cornell University, where I used my language skills to focus on international and comparative law, as well as developing particular skills in criminal law and general trial advocacy. In addition, I spent a year in France at the Universit Paris 1 Panthon-Sorbonne, where I obtained an LLM (master of laws) in French, European, and international law. Outside of academia, I have worked as a document translator and an in-court interpreter in both French and Spanish and have worked directly with French- and Spanish-speaking clients in legal and financial settings. As an undergraduate student, I was French-language liaison to the Modern Languages and Cultures Undergraduate Council, in which position I oversaw tutoring sessions, organized conversation and culture hours, and represented the interests of Francophone students and French learners at Council meetings. In addition, I co-directed an outreach program to local elementary schools, teaching both French and Spanish to children in grades K-4. On the legal side, I have worked in immigration, contract, family, and criminal law, and have been a teaching assistant for legal courses and served as a graduate-student mentor for pre-law students.
With certifications to teach French from PreK through 12th grade, experience teaching AP French, and a master's degree specifically in Teaching French as a Second or Foreign Language, Ariana knows the pedagogical side of this exam as well as the linguistic side. She tackles the gap between students who can conjugate correctly on a worksheet and students who can deploy those same structures fluidly in a timed persuasive essay or spontaneous conversation task — the shift that separates 3s from 5s.

Frequently Asked Questions
AP French covers six themes: Global Challenges, Science and Technology, Contemporary Life, Personal and Public Identities, Families and Communities, and Beauty and Aesthetics. The exam tests your ability to read, write, listen, and speak French across these themes through multiple-choice questions, free responses, and conversational tasks. A tutor can help you develop cultural knowledge and language skills across all these areas systematically.
The AP French exam has two sections: Multiple Choice (40% of score) covering reading and listening comprehension, and Free Response (60% of score) including written and spoken responses. The entire exam takes about 3 hours. Understanding each section's timing and question types is crucial—a tutor can walk you through practice tests so you're comfortable with the pacing and format on test day.
Most students struggle with the speaking section (presentational and conversational), maintaining fluency under time pressure, and understanding authentic French audio at natural speed. Additionally, writing grammatically complex sentences while expressing nuanced ideas challenges many test-takers. Personalized tutoring helps you practice these specific skills repeatedly, build confidence in real-time conversation, and develop strategies to manage test anxiety.
Score improvement depends on your starting point and consistency. Students who work with a tutor typically see gains of 1-2 points on the 1-5 scale when they commit to regular practice and targeted skill-building over several months. The key is identifying your specific weak areas—whether that's listening comprehension, essay writing, or speaking fluency—and focusing your prep there. A tutor can diagnose these gaps quickly and create a focused study plan.
Practice tests are essential for AP French because they help you understand the exam's unique format, build test-taking stamina, and identify exactly where you need improvement. Taking full-length practice tests under timed conditions reveals whether your struggles are with comprehension, expression, pacing, or test anxiety. A tutor can review your practice test results with you, pinpoint patterns in your mistakes, and adjust your study plan accordingly.
The speaking section requires you to respond to prompts in real-time and have a spontaneous conversation—skills that are hard to practice alone. Personalized tutoring gives you a native or near-native French speaker to practice with regularly, receive immediate feedback on pronunciation and grammar, and build confidence speaking under pressure. Consistent conversational practice over weeks or months is far more effective than cramming right before the exam.
Most students benefit from 3-6 months of consistent preparation, though this varies based on your current level. If you're starting from a weaker foundation, beginning in the fall for a May exam gives you time to build skills methodically. A tutor can assess your current level in your first session and create a realistic timeline tailored to your goals, helping you pace your prep so you're strongest right before test day.
In your first session, a tutor will assess your current French level across reading, writing, listening, and speaking to identify your strengths and gaps. You'll discuss your target AP score, timeline, and any specific anxieties (like speaking anxiety or essay writing). From there, the tutor will create a personalized study plan focused on your priorities. This diagnostic approach ensures your tutoring time is spent on what actually moves your score.
