I gradated high school early with honors, distinction a 4.6 GPA and am currently in my 3rd year of undergrad working towards a Bachelors in business. Every year of my schooling I have been asked to tutor or otherwise assist my peers academically. I enjoy tutoring any subject as long as I am informed of the topic beforehand. But I most enjoy helping students prepare for and improve their scores on the ACT exam. My most recent students all improved their scores by 5 (composite) points or more! My primary goal is to help each student successfully obtain (and redefine if currently lackluster) their academic goals. At times students need to rediscover their curiosity. I can help them work past frustration to refocus and/or differentiate other blocks to learning. I do not take the responsibility of helping you or child along your/their educational journey lightly. I have had the opportunity to teach and to tutor thousands of students over my 33 year teaching career. I believe that each student is unique, and that academic skills and weaknesses should be assessed and targeted for the best results. I also hope that it can be a FUN learning experience! I am a graduate of the University of Florida's PhD program in the Microbiology and Cell Science Department. Since graduation, I have worked for a startup company studying neurodegenerative biomarker uptake by immune cells in the peripheral blood during neuroinflammation. While I tutor a variety of subjects, my main passions lie in biology, microbiology, and chemistry. I believe it is important for students to not only learn the subject material but also to discover how they learn in general and how they can learn to take assessment tests efficiently.

I am a certified K-12 educator, musician, and artist with a passion for teaching and helping others. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education/Jazz Studies from Augustana College. I currently work as a 5th-8th grade teacher during the day with teaching licenses in two states. I teach private music lessons to 4th-12th grade students on all concert band instruments and offer music theory/music education tutoring. I have been tutoring test prep for the past year on all levels of the ISEE, SSAT, ACT, and HSPT. I also tutor students in English and reading along with general homework help. Since I am certified in two states to teach K-12 students, I work well with students of all ages. I work especially well with upper elementary and middle school students because those are the students I teach most frequently. I love teaching these middle ages because it is important to grow academically and personally during this time as the students start to become aware of who they are and who they want to become. As a school teacher, I love watching students grow and achieve their goals. While music is my specialty, I am an effective and positive tutor in test prep and reading subjects. Over the past few years, I've had the chance to tutor students in both one-on-one and small group settings, mostly in Biology, SAT Math and English, and English-related subjects, with a strong focus on IGCSE/ High school and early college levels. Each student is different, and I've learned how important it is to stay flexible, adjust my approach, and really listen to what each person needs. My goal is always to make learning feel less intimidating and more approachable. I'm currently in my 4th year of medical school, so I have a certain love for Biology and other life sciences. On the formal front, I have my AA in Psychology, my BA in Criminology, and my MS in E-Commerce, and I have an equally diverse post-studies career history. My love of education has taken me to Southern California where I fed my love of law and learned about film. Next, I visited rural Florida with a stint at a Community Theatre. I've even spent a fair amount of time in the Hospitality Industry in Las Vegas, which, unexpectedly, introduced me to the construction industry. Through all of this, I have been a professional tutor for profit and pro bono. I believe education should be available to everyone regardless of age, sex, or socio-economic status, and I utilize learning identification to impart wisdom in the most effective way possible for each student's needs. I love that magical moment when the student "gets it." With experience in a broad range of subjects, mathematics is the most enjoyable for me, as well as LSAT Logic Games I'm the weirdo doing LSAT games at the tea house. My spare time finds me in nature for hikes and trail runs, and I can regularly be found on an obstacle course (Spartan, Tough Mudder, SISU, etc.) or doing an extreme endurance events either racing or supporting friends. Life is to be learned and lived!

In May 2019 I graduated from the University of North Texas with a BA in English and a concentration in creative writing. I particularly enjoy revising/editing stories and essays but can also help with Literary Analysis, Composition, etc as well as most standardized tests and middle school/high school subjects. I'm friendly and passionate about helping other people in any way I can. I'm pretty funny (I hope) so we should have a great time while we're working.
