Hiya :-) I'm a graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts (BFA, Drama/Dramatic Writing), a Sundance Screenwriter's Lab finalist, and a well-published academic writer/theorist who currently works with the Institute for Critical Animal Studies and the historic US peace and climate justice organization Promoting Enduring Peace. I'm also as an experienced educator with extensive international teaching experience in the fields of English, history, psychology and drama. I love using my diverse background to help students envision and create the lives and world they want to live in!
My international teaching experience includes five years in China teaching college-prep English essay writing, literature, world history, psychology, TOEFL prep and SAT reading comprehension/grammar/vocabulary, as well as assisting students with college application essays, through the China Social Welfare Education Foundation. I also taught ESL for seven months in rural Nicaragua, and spent 6 weeks touring the Middle East, performing in a circus troupe for refugee children. Other teaching experience includes teaching courses at Wesleyan University's Green Street Arts Center on Middle Eastern history and the history of Utopian movements/ideas, teaching at a Korean prep school in Queens, NY, serving as an artist mentor to homeless children in the NYC shelter system, and teaching drama to 4th and 5th graders in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn.
As an educator, I bring all of my interests, ideas, experiences and inspiration into conversation with the subject matter at hand, for a truly interdisciplinary approach. My teaching style is dynamic, empathetic, collaborative and holistic, and my process is always focused on asking thought-provoking questions to help students find core themes, principles and connections in both the material we are studying, and the development of their own ideas. I believe that education is all about liberation, and that my job as an educator is to empower students with the tools they need to understand and shape their own realities.
If you are seeking a one-of-a-kind educational experience that will expand your perspective and electrify your imagination, please get in touch! I am already excited to work with you, and help you make your dreams come true.
