Certified Tutor

There are few things that bring me as much joy as imparting knowledge onto someone else. I discovered the passion as the age of 14 when I was tasked with teaching martial arts weapons classes. A job that would help hone my instructional skill up until I left home to pursue my bachelors in engineering at the University of Florida.
While in undergraduate school I would often take up jobs helping students who struggled in STEM classes, my favorite subjects. They ranged between middle schoolers in the local area, to fellow undergraduates taking the same course as me at the same time. I just derived a lot of joy from helping those around me understand what I understood, it felt nice to share. And, I genuinely felt like explaining the concepts to them helped me understand them even more. As my dad always says, "you don't truly understand something until you can teach it."
I live and die by the philosophy of "teaching someone to fish" rather than having them regurgitate methods and information that seem arbitrary to them. I feel like people generally have an easier time doing something properly when they understand how things came to be this way. At the same time I believe that there are many ways to catch a fish, so ultimately my job as a tutor is to just create an environment where the student can find their own way, and methods for accomplishing what they need to accomplish. Once they have their methods and have made them their own I feel like I have accomplished my job.
