I have been working with college and high school students for over 15 years in courses and programs at Harvard University (where I've taught writing for 8 years), Emerson College, Duke University (where I got my PhD), and Carleton College (where I did my undergrad). My favorite subjects are writing, government/politics, history, literature, and philosophy. I also enjoy advising students on college applications and admissions essay. I believe that dedicated students of all levels and backgrounds can make progress toward their learning goals.

I'm an avid runner, having run several half marathons and currently preparing for my first full marathon. I'm also a big music fan (indie/alternative rock especially) and occasionally noodle on my piano and guitar. I like to read about politics and social issues, though I'm also a fan of contemporary fiction, especially science fiction and horror.
