I am a graduate of Virginia Tech, and majored in biology with a chemistry minor. I also have my Master's degree in Biology, and 4 years of a PhD completed in microbial ecology. My graduate work focused on public health microbiology and river ecology, and I have a passion for teaching and science!

I have 8 years of experience teaching college-level science courses; in grad school, the best parts of my days were spent teaching microbiology and biology labs. I have an easygoing, nonjudgmental, and inclusive style, consistently earning excellent teaching evaluations from students. My teaching philosophy is "less lecture, more conversation", and you'll never catch me teaching directly from a textbook! I try my best to clarify difficult concepts into understandable and cohesive lessons, and take pride in personalizing tutoring to each unique learning style.

I mainly tutor high school to graduate-level sciences - including microbiology, general biology, and environmental studies - and I am very experienced in tutoring AP courses. I am proficient in scientific writing and a published author and researcher. I prefer to have a conversation rather than simply lecturing, and pride in my ability to facilitate thoughtful discussion. I also take time to prepare before each tutoring session, and make a point to exchange class materials with students so I can help as much as possible.
