I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

I grew up believing that science was difficult and "not for me," and my goal is to help other students struggling in STEM-related fields achieve their long-term career goals! However, I am also unbiased towards other subjects :-) I am a natural lover of reading and writing, so my skills extend far beyond just math and science!

In May of 2020, I graduated from Texas Tech University with dual degrees in Microbiology B.S. and Psychology B.A., with minors in Chemistry and Biology. I was a pre-medical student throughout undergraduate school, and I am currently a first-year medical student at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine as an M.D./MPH candidate. I am a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Mortar Board, and graduated with highest honors after completing a thesis on the use of palliative care in the U.S.

I have taken several psychological classes at the graduate level, as well as a handful of biology classes at the graduate level. Otherwise, earning my dual degree in both microbiology and psychology means that I have a strong fundamental grasp of college-level courses in biology, physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry... all of that fun stuff! :-) Also, having taken the MCAT, I am more than happy to help guide any other undergraduate students who are in the process of studying or are beginning to study for the MCAT. Medicine is my favorite thing in the world, and I am more than happy to help others with any part of the process!

My personal method of teaching is fluid, and depends upon the student! I am a visual learner, and learn best in that way. I will typically meet on a Zoom call and use my iPad as a virtual whiteboard to teach. However, different students require different things! I like to check in with my students periodically and adapt to their method of learning. Since I am in medical school, I prefer to work with students who are more long-term and have flexible schedules! I love working with people long-term to help them improve.

Hobbies

I am a huge Harry Potter nerd! Lord of the Rings is also up there, ha! I like stand-up comedy, as well as reading and writing. Lately, I have been trying my hand at drawing—I won’t say that I’m great, but I do enjoy practicing :-) I also write a little online blog where I talk about various scientific topics, so I am always looking for new material! When I'm not studying, I also enjoy crocheting, playing with my dog, and watching/reviewing movies! I promise I'm not as nerdy as I sound!
