I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

Hello!

I am an alumni of Winthrop University, and I hold an MA in English. I am also a member of the International English Honors Society (Sigma Tau Delta)!

I absolutely love all things English and Writing, and I am actually a writer myself. My strengths are exemplified in brainstorming, editing poetry and prose, helping study habits, reading comprehension, and help with essays from elementary school all the way to college.

I worked with children for nearly seven years at an after-school/summer camp (which I was coordinator of) facility, and encouraged literacy by taking them to the library next to our building twice a week. Their ages ranged from 6-15, and I successfully taught them about theatre, helped them with English homework, and counseled them through hard times. I have had experience working as a lead K4 and K5 teacher, as well.

During my BA and MA studies, I've worked with multiple peers on papers and proofreading.

I am beyond passionate about teaching and tutoring. There have been too many teachers and tutors in my life that didn't care about their students (I call them 9-5s), and I want to be that one teacher that someone looks back on and thinks: "Wow. She really helped me." Aside from writing, I find this be my ultimate goal. If I can say I helped a one or two students, then I'm doing something right.

Don't be afraid to contact me if you have any questions!

Hobbies

I love music, movies, reading (mostly YA fantasy and anything creepy - so, you know, elves, faeries, magical worlds, and things that go BUMP in the night) and writing. I travel often to meet bestselling novelists and have a huge collection of personalized books, and at each meeting I learn something new for myself AND for tutoring writing and reading. I also adore D&D with friends! Not only does it improve my creativity, but it helps to reduce stress. I love Marvel, DC villains, the new She-Ra Netflix reboot, and any movie that requires my analytical English major to come out and play. I’m a huge geek and a kid at heart, so chances are tutoring with me will be fun.
