LaQuana

Certified Tutor

As someone passionate about research and education, I am hoping to provide tutoring services to help students achieve their academic goals and fully grasp the concepts they are learning.
I have had experience with tutoring younger children, while in high school in math, vocabulary, and reading. I graduated with a Master's in Public Sociology and Criminology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), where I previously obtained my Bachelor's in Criminology. During my time as a Master's student, I was able to teach two undergraduate courses in criminal justice and sociology under the direction of a professor. Currently, my work as a Correctional Research Associate has provided me with the opportunity to utilize my research skills to enhance the field of correctional management and has sparked my interest and passion for teaching others. I have a wide range of teaching and tutoring abilities; I also have experience in administering and grading tests, holding study groups, grading assignments and assisting students with writing.

I believe that supporting and guiding the learning process of others not only benefits the student, but benefits the teacher/tutor as well. It is vital to acknowledge all lessons we learn from one another in an effort to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Being a part of a learning community has been instilled in me since my youth and will continue to be a part of my life. Learning is a revolving cycle that is an essential part of life and I hope to contribute to others' learning experiences as well as my own.

Areas that I am able to assist in are reading, math, SPSS statistical analysis, writing, vocabulary, grammar, spelling and study skills. Common core courses help us understand essential basic knowledge and throughout my experience as a student and teacher, I have the ability to include common core techniques into everyday life as well as teach them to others, to have a successful academic career.

Feel free to contact me if you or your student are struggling in any areas or would like extra practice in certain subjects. I will do my best to respond as quickly as possible and aid you/your student learning to the best of my abilities. Thanks so much in advance.
