What is your teaching philosophy?
Use unambiguous, meaningful methods and language so the material is understood.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know them a little better: how they learn best and their favorite subjects.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I would help motivate them to want to achieve more; that way they'll be more excited to work on their subjects with me or independently.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I will give a lot of positive feedback and positive reinforcements so they will feel adequate.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try to make it interesting for them. I would also use real-life scenarios that paint a more simple picture and make it easier to understand.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Break the paragraphs down sentence by sentence, and discuss the meaning of them as we read.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Positive reinforcement makes them more confident and motivated. Also, breaking problems down into smaller tasks that are easier to do keeps them motivated.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Break the problem down into smaller, easier to answer pieces.
