I'm a junior studying nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I'm currently working towards a BSN degree, and hope to get a DNP (Doctorate of Nursing Practice) in the future. Nursing in itself is a very collaborative major, so my peers and I have spent a lot of time tutoring each other through our tougher courses.
I'm also a Senior Health Educator with an organization called Peer Health Exchange. With this program, I go to Chicago Public High Schools and teach a comprehensive health education curriculum to high school freshmen. I've taught over 55 workshops so far, to groups of 10-50 students. I honestly love teaching and it makes me so happy to see students engaged and learning! A well-rounded education is so important in fostering independent thinking.
I also have experience tutoring and mentoring through programs within my university, specifically with the Honors College and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE). I've mentored one-on-one, as well as in groups of 10 or more.
I love tutoring the sciences, especially biology and medical sciences. English, reading, and poetry are also some of my favorite subjects to teach. I also speak Spanish natively.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I always say that the best way to know if you actually learned something is to teach it to someone else. If you're comfortable explaining a problem and confident in your solution, then you've done a great job developing your own learning process. I want to help my students feel confident in their learning methods and be independent.
