What is your teaching philosophy?

Teaching is an opportunity to engage a learner who wants to obtain the knowledge and skills that I have and who needs to accomplish their goal.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know the student and let them get to know me as well. Try to create a common ground.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Use graduated guidance. Initially, they may need a lot of help learning a new concept. As we work with several examples, the student may come upon their own. That is a good sign that they are getting independent.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Keep on the topic and keep them engaged at all times with questions, self-reflection, and doing something. Providing feedback and keeping myself energized also helps.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Breaking it down to meaningful, smaller tasks, and then chaining it together and applying the concepts as we move forward. Practice a lot initially.
